can we just all agree to stop using “only fans” lmao . Bro this **** is happening every year it’s just people liking different prospects... and thinking they are smarter than everyone else . still , most are rockets fans at heart . Most people that loved mobley etc are still happy that green is looking good . as for this draft ... I need to do more research. I like the idea of Jabari a lot , Idk how real the idea is. Chet is scary because his body is the biggest outlier . banchero might be the safest pick . I’m not sure how big he really is .. but he seems big . I also disagree with the statement that “green and sengun will be defensive liabilities” #1 they were rookies #2 green actually looks pretty good on that end #3 the team as a whole was undiscipled/bad Is banchero worse defensively than wood ? Smith and Chet are legit thought of as good tho I think . I think banchero might be able to refine his body in a few years and be a good defender at the 4 with strength to switch to 5 and maybe using his length on the perimeter. I like Jabari best from the highlights I’ve seen . Unconscious shooting and quick decision to do so . Strong on perimeter defense . Good size . It just depends on his shot for me and if he can do enough big man things .
Not saying it's not an asset, but that's not JJJ calling card and nobody thinks that's what makes him the player he is. Would you draft JJJ at the top of this draft? So who is Steven Adams for us? My point is does shot blocking make him a better prospect than these other guys because it seems most everybody keeps bringing that up. For the record JJJ seems to be a good comp but Holmgren has more skill but would you be happy picking Holmgren if he turned out to be JJJ?
Banchero's body is not his problem on defense, it's his attitude and commitment. The best defenders are dogs on that side of the ball, they don't PLAY defense, they LIVE it. There are some posters who don't give 2 fvcks about defense. Thinking it will fix itself should Rockets continue adding 1 dimensional players who will magically become capable of top 10 defense one day. Championship teams need offense AND defense ranked in top 10. Consistently ignoring defense season after season is braindead. And Banchero IS a worse rim protector than Wood. Wood has averaged over 1 BPG since becoming a Rocket. Wood last season in college he averaged almost 3 BPG. Banchero averaged .8 BPG. That is less than 1 block per game. Stunning right?
banchero is also the primary playmaker for duke right ? Green was seen as a primarily offense player ... but he’s put in a lot of work on D . The team can set a culture and what guys did in college doesn’t matter . It’s not like we are evaluating 4 years of production . It’s a 30 something game sample size . Who knows what he’s being taught and what he’s being told to do . nba development is a totally different process. these guys are at the top of draft boards due to their offense potential and projectability on both ends . No one is a proven defender right now . if his body looks good , then every team in the nba thinks they can make him a great defender . If he has a great knowledge of the game , that can be turned into smarts on D too . guys that LIVE D at the college level usually don’t get taken that high because they sacrifice their offensive game to play with more effort on D . Chet is a defensive first player .. but a lot of that is his body and smarts place him in position to make plays ... it’s not that he tries so much harder that everyone else . if we get 1 I might wanna trade back. I’m not sold Chet is fast enough to be good in the nba . I want smith . Idk if you have to pick him at 1 .. Banchero would be OK .. but I think smith is a much better defender already and has special shooting . Ivey would be outside the box and I’d rather not . It’s still harder to get top 4’s and 5’s at their position than guards .
The well rounded guy with no glaring weaknesses, aside from body aesthetics, is actually Chet Holmgren. And fyi - Chet will be a better shot blocker than Giannis and Mobley. From day one.
It's a lot more than body aesthetics, and you are ignoring a lot if you think he is more well-rounded Banchero.
Banchero was the 1st option scorer but wasn't the only playmaker on Duke. Wendell Moore (with Roach and even Keels) helped facilitate offense and Moore averaged same number of assists on fewer touches. Smith is good perimeter defender. I would not say he is elite in this area (e.g. Mobley). And overall defensively he is not better than Chet. Chet DRTG, DBPM, DWS and Box +/- is head and shoulders above any player in this draft. Smith is an elite shooter for sure, I have no problem with him as Rockets pick. Smith is plug and play. But Smith will not be a big factor in improving Rockets paint/rim protection.
More efficient offensively and much better defensively. Best 2 way player in top of draft, if not entire draft. Chet's production AND advanced stats are off the charts, historically good. Can you dispute any of this?
Where is this Chet isn’t fast enough coming from? That’s literally one of his strengths. He is a better athlete than Banchero, but Banchero can play in the league?
I believe Holmgren is going to be much better than JJJ. But JJJ is one of the best defensive players in the league. I wouldn't be mad at a healthy JJJ.
Julius Randle averaged 24-10-6 last year, career-season or not. And LeBron's career averages are literally better than those, so the arbitrary 10reb cutoff eliminating him doesn't mean much. Even if you lower the criteria to something like 23/8/4, there are many players who meet that benchmark. Functionally speaking, I can see him being a stronger/slightly better Pascal Siakam, which is nothing to scoff at. This season Siakam put up 23/9/5 on 50/34/75 splits, which is definitely something I can see Banchero hitting, but earlier in his career.
I can definitely dispute that his production was historically good but you can make stats say anything and I don't care about all the other stuff. Anyway I am not going back and forth with you, I remember how you used to go on and on about AB, I know how it is when you start about a guy you love. We will just agree to disagree.
I'm not the one who pulled out those numbers. And we were discussing career averages not outlier seasons.
Chet, Jabari, Ivey, Eason, Murray, Ty Ty etc.. etc... "all better prospects than Banchero" Source? "trust me bro"
I would not be mad at a healthy JJJ, either, I just think we can do better in this draft. I want the guy who I think can be closer to Morant than JJJ, I think we can get a JJJ type later in the draft. I don't think he is going to be much better because of his size, but he is more skilled, and I am not drafting a guy top 5 I hope will be able to hold up physically to the NBA if I think other guys are better. That's just my opinion.
I actually don't love Chet. I wanted to draft Mobley last season to avoid being at mercy of this particular draft. Mobley would have allowed Rockets the greatest flexibility in this draft. If you go back to my posts last season, I was pointing to this draft as having tons of options but no significant or potential generational game changers.
