It seems that the term “woke” has been co-opted to be a term of derision used against self-righteous lefties who make too big deal out of social justice. It originally was used among black people to mean someone who has awoken to the myriad ways in which black people are systemically discriminated against. I don’t think Dave Chapelle would have any problem whatsoever with “woke” people, in that sense.
Since Woke is given as a reason by the OP (and many others on the right for many years) as the reason for polarizing society, I accept that is the case for many. Took me a while to understand what Woke means and I'm still not sure I understand it. "Passive" Woke is a state of being where a person is being aware of racial or social discrimination and injustice. That sounds awesome to me. "Active" / activism Woke is a state of action where a person is pushing OTHERS to be aware of racial or social discrimination and injustice. Ah, that sounds like banging your head against the wall with negative returns. My guess is no one is against the first definition (at least initially until they are so fed up with the 2nd). In the 2nd definition, people have resented being told what to do especially if they are being forced to change how to think or how to act. That is understandable. And how many people are like this with regards to being Woke? My guess is most people are NOT aware of racial and social discrimination and injustice and in fact most people are discriminatory and don't give much care to social injustice. Some (mostly on the left side but even on the right) accept the passive woke as a good thing and a good ideal and thus allow an active version of it to some extent. Others (mostly on the right side and even on the left side) resent the push so much they hate the whole damn thing. Is this the reason for a much more polarized world? Nay. Think to yourself how many people are actually under the "active" / activism Woke? Not that many. A much bigger reason is the short format of communication at a massive scale and reaches with no limits on physical boundaries (aka social media) give a huge voice to a small group that is hyper-aggressive. The effect is both a pull of some moderate toward those extremes and a resentment/push against those extremes. Moderate still rules but they are being stupidly and blindly pulled and pushed toward the extremes. Wake the hell up, relax and smell some coffee. BTW, tweets after tweets as a debate format are my evidence of the mind-dumbing effect.
The GOP can only create mock outrage and slogans. Enlightened is what woke means - people who are enlightened to the truth. Some like Tinman are just star ****ers - they are followers or fans of sports players, or successful business people or whatever - it is what they do.....follow....easier than thinking things through I guess. Elon built no such thing, one of the guys on my BOWLING team built that factory - Elon hired him to do the one in Reno and this one...... Elon stands on the backs of Intelligence and he didn't even start Tesla he leveraged his way into it.....not hard to do when you don't have to pay taxes on any of the money you make. Stocks go up, you borrow money against them going up and live on that money, never paying taxes......it is a pretty good gig if you can get it. But Elon was rich when he was a kid, his parents who ran gem mines in South Africa gave him a start..... I like Elon too, I am just not going to bend over for him and ignore the privilege he took advantage of to get where he is, government subsidies, parents money.... It is easy to get caught up in worshiping money or people - but dig in, find out the truth and make a call. Still like Elon, just wish we would close loop holes and he would pay his taxes. I get what he does, and no it doesn't bother me. He's not being serious and is taking the piss out of people who are. I guess I don't see the D&D as anything important, just a place to have some debates with people because I enjoy that. And I don't think @tinman is interfering with that so why should I care?
