I hope this was a joke, or really don't know much about actual basketball. Cummings was a back to basket low post scorer who rarely shot jump shots, Worthy was highly skilled guy who could work you on the post and had a great face up game, nothing like Chet. I have no idea where you got these comps.
This is the best way to look at it. We basically have a coin flip chance at picking in the top 4. While we all have preferences in the top 4 of this draft, if we get any of them we have a chance of getting an all star caliber player.
Chet's elite defense will translate whether he plays the 4 or the 5, he regularly guarded the tougher match up at those positions in college. There are concerns with any of the top 4 in this draft, and I am not telling people who they should like. I'll just say that I personally have no concerns long term about Chet's defense, he is going to at a minimum be a Marcus Camby/Tyson Chandler type defender and has upside to be far better because he can guard the perimeter and in the full court.... likewise I don't have any concerns about Banchero's ability to drop 20 a night in the NBA and more if he improves his outside shot.
Yea at this point if we land a top 4 pick that's two years in a row where things have gone our way because it could have easily been: 1. Lose last year's pick to OKC 2. End up with the 5th pick this year Which would probably mean having to take a hard look at the "next tier" of prospects like Griffin or Murray or Sharpe as your first real rebuilding block.
How is this a bad or negative thing? Especially on that team that did not have a playmaker or a motion offense, it was his job to catch and purvey the situation. I would like him to be quicker to make those decisions, but we are talking about a PF not a guard. He regularly guarded dentist and euro players in college and was mainly planted in the paint, we are talking about NBA bigs here, and he had trouble against every team that had decent bigs who were physical with him, so I don't know why you think he will not in the NBA. So you see Chet as a rim protecting C? Because that is what Camby and Chandler were, guys who main job on defense was to protect the paint, I don't see how he holds up physically for that. Also nobody outside of Utah asks their C to do that, and he will be asked to switch, and I don't know how he will hold up there. You really really like Chet and you keep looking at him with best case scenario and ignore that he has shown very little of this in College, NBA guys are going to be salivating to go at him unlike the guys he played in conference. Memphis had great success scoring in the paint on Holmgren which kept them in the game.
You continue to lie to put down Chet. You have been shown multiple times how Chet shut down Memphis, and did very well defensively against every team he played, including the big name teams. Including Duke What teams did Duke play that were world beaters?
Chet didn't guard dentists in college, he played a competitive schedule, especially out of conference. Also Chet has played against very good players in the World U/19 as well.... I'm not worried about the level of competition he has faced at all personally. I also don't agree that he struggled against every team that had big players. Holmgren can defend inside and he can defend on the perimeter. All of his advanced stats collaborate that as well, as the difference in the performance of his team with him on the court versus with him off the court was massive. I'm also not looking at his at his "best case scenario"..... his best case scenario is that he takes his skills on offense and becomes a huge offensive threat, and I have said very little about him on offense other than he can shoot 3's, is great in transition and finishing... so no, me saying he is going to be a very good defensive player in the NBA isn't a best case scenario. However, based on his track record, his skill set and all of the advances statistics he is very likely to be an elite defender.... that isn't "best case", that is just the reality. His skill set also fits the modern NBA very very well. If this were 1995 I would say he doesn't have a chance physically. The league is very different now. Also concerning Memphis, he did a very good job defensively. He doesn't have a great defender next to him and I don't remember, but the stat I saw was that post players shot under 40% against him in that game. If there are any concerns about Chet defensively, it isn't ability but the possibility of injury or getting used to an 82 game schedule. He will get stronger and with his wingspan, instincts, motor and work ethic, he will be a very good defender if healthy.
Paolo guys for the most part are ok with anyone of the top 3 guys getting picked, yet the other contingent(s) go out of their way to exclude him and look for ways to break him down .... sound familiar? Seems like thats what happened last year too. I'll be cool with whoever Stone picks because he knocked it out of the park last year. Here for shts and giggles I'll really ruffle some feathers ... Paolo Banchero will be a similar player to Jayson Tatum. From a cultist to a liar - trending upwards!!
Verbal is trying to insinuate that Paolo is JG? Unlike him, I support all of our young players (no matter their color). I have also been very clear that I’m fine with any of the top 3 big guys, from day one. I prefer Chet-Jabari-Paolo in that order. Upside and defense is way too high for Chet and Jabari.
For all the Offense Only fans I present 6'10 Trevion Williams. Averaged 6 AST last season for Purdue. His playmaking and post moves are better than any player in NCAA. Also a better finisher than Banchero.
I'm similar except I'm not sure Paolo will be a primary scorer. I'd have Ivey over Banchero, and I see Chet and Jabari as a toss up. I suspect there are NBA teams that think Paolo will be a primary scorer, and would expect they would be willing to trade more for Paolo than I think he is worth if the others are gone.
Chet did not play center at Gonzaga when he displayed his elite rim protection. And shot blocking does translate to NBA. With Rockets defensive challenges we should all care about elite defense. Would you hire a jack of all trades/master of none or an expert for your business?
