Lavine is a nice player and his averages are good, but his advanced stats aren't like WS and BPM aren't quite where I hope Jalen gets eventually. I consider Lavine a top 25-30 player in the NBA and he's entering his prime right now. I hope Green is a more generational scorer and can crack the top 15 or so. Would be a little disappointed if his peak is top 30 ish.

For the last portion, maybe 1/8 of season he was a top 30 player essentially. I bet at some point he can be a top 10 player in the nba just based on that.

Sometimes they are just way too obvious.

That dude is literally saying Lavine has robotic athleticism while Green is more dynamic. He also said Lavine is trash so I dunno what you mean nobody is saying Green is better than Lavine.

I think this is more of a Zach Lavine thread than a Jalen Green thread. From reading the posts in here it sounds like the real issue here is that you rate Zach Lavine significantly lower than almost anyone else, so the comparison seems crazy to you.

I think it's ridiculous to say Zach Lavine is in the same tier as Jason Richardson. I'd probably have a similar reaction to what you're having if everyone was telling me Jalen was a Jason Richardson type player. But I think Zach Lavine is better than you think he is, so the comparison is not the insult that you think it is.

If Green turns into a Lavine type of player, that’s still a win. Odds are against any player turning into a generational player.
Green has the potential to be that, but if he’s Lavine level that’s still an absolute win imo.

He's a very good player. His career has been a disappointment because he hasn't come even close to reaching his potential or contract, but he's a very good player.

Glad everyone values a dunk contest. Please only draft someone that can show up for a dunk contest. They clearly will win a championship. I mean everyone plays for that dunk contest trophy, and anyone that wins it will for sure win a NBA championship.

honestly him not showing up for that contest was the best thing for Jalen.

Its why Im wary of Shaedon Sharpe based only off of high school tape. Does everyone remember how stupid good Wiggins high school highlights were?

Oh I remember thinking Wiggins was going to be a top 5 player in the league. And it's sad because he has the talent to do it. He just doesn't have the heart.

Yup. I thought the same about Ricky Rubio after watching his amatuer mix tape. Its tough to make it in the NBA.

that's because Lavine Booker and Beal were drafted at a time where 3 pointers were just starting to become more prevalent. If they were drafted in 2021 they would be throwing up just as many as did this season.

Comparisons like this are by nature pretty broad stroked to the point of being insulting. Are they European? Compare them to other European players. Are they super athletic? Compare them to other athletic players. Are they white? Compare them to other white players, etc. It happens time and time again. I think it probably speaks more to limitations of how much nuance the average sports analyst can comprehend combined with some limitations to how humans categorize. People often can't see past the first couple of groupings. Jalen is clearly an athletic scorer but he is also a lot of other things but people won't see too far past the first couple because then the nuance gets too thick for the average person. Maybe he can shoot the ball like Ray Allen but because Green is a great dunker, people won't compare him to Allen because Allen was considered a pure shooter and the only pool of potential players for Green will have to come down to uber athletic (and typically slashing) players - hence comps to Lavine, or maybe Vince Carter even though he may be a far better shooter than those guys.

It's probably also why we still live with so much racism, xenophobia, sexism, etc - if your default is start from a place of a person's sex, skin color, or ethnicity is a more relevant data point than literally any other personality trait and you don't have space for multiple levels of nuance, then it doesn't matter whatever traits they exhibit because(for example) you probably already choose the candidate who met your preference for gender, race, etc.
