One losing candidate didn't concede because she thought the winning candidate had a number of actions taken that impeded voters from voting. The other losing candidate incited rioters to attack the Capital. But lets look at what Abrams said... Abrams says concession comparisons to Trump are ‘apples to bowling balls’ Stacey Abrams on Sunday said comparisons between her refusal to concede her loss in a governor’s race to now Gov.-Brian Kemp (R) to President Trump’s refusal to concede the presidential race are “apples and bowling balls.” “t’s not simply different circumstances. It’s apples and bowling balls,” Abrams told ABC’s Martha Raddatz Sunday on “This Week.” Abrams refused to concede in 2018 an argued that voter suppression contributed to her loss. But she aid the big difference was that the prevailed with some of her arguments, while courts have rejected Trump’s. “I pointed out that there were a series of actions taken that impeded the ability of voters to cast their ballots. And in almost every one of those circumstances, the courts agreed, as did the state legislature,” she told Raddatz. Abrams: “I pointed out there were a series of actions taken that impeded the ability of voters to cast their ballots.” https://t.co/D6Bf454eHI — This Week (@ThisWeekABC) January 3, 2021 “By contrast, President Trump has lost every single one of his challenges in the State of Georgia and he has no evidence. In fact, an audit — the fourth, I think, of this election found that there was zero fraud in our signature match process,” Abrams said. “One person … inadvertently signed for husband against the rules but otherwise we know that the signatures match and that the process works.” Shortly after the 2018 election, a federal judge ruled Kemp, Georgia’s secretary of state at the time of the vote, likely “fail[ed] to properly maintain a reliable and secure voter registration system,” which “has and will continue to result in the infringement of the rights of the voters to cast their vote and have their votes counted,” according to The Washington Post. In a separate consent agreement between the Georgia Democratic party and the Secretary of State’s office, the state of Georgia agreed to establish a system for notifying voters in a timely manner if their signatures on absentee ballots were rejected as nonmatches. The president has repeatedly attacked Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s (R) office and Abrams, whose campaign filed the lawsuit that led to it, for this agreement. The president has repeatedly claimed that Biden’s victory in Georgia was the result of widespread voter fraud, but the courts and GOP officials in the state have said there is no evidence to back up his arguments. Trump has responded by attacking Republican state officials. He has called for Kemp to be primaried and told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo he was “ashamed” to have endorsed him in 2018. https://thehill.com/homenews/sunday...paring-her-gubernatorial-challenge-to-trumps/
Cross-posting this here. Congratulations, Governor de Santis! https://nypost.com/2022/04/11/ny-handled-covid-19-lockdown-poorly-florida-among-best-study/ NY, Calif. failed in handling of COVID — but Florida was among best: study By Emily Crane April 11, 2022 9:32am Updated New York, New Jersey and California failed in their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic because of stringent lockdowns and policies, while Florida was among the best-performing states in the country, a new study has found. The study, published by the Committee To Unleash Prosperity, graded states by comparing COVID-19 outcomes based on the number of deaths, the economy and impact on education. Overall, the bottom 10 on the study’s “report card” were dominated by states that had the most severe pandemic lockdowns and were among the last to finally reopen schools. “Shutting down their economies and schools was by far the biggest mistake governors and state officials made during COVID, particularly in blue states,” Stephen Moore, one of the study’s authors and co-founder of the Committee To Unleash Prosperity, said Monday. Despite now-disgraced former Gov. Andrew Cuomo initially being hailed for his strict response to the pandemic, the Empire State performed “poorly on every measure” — ranking 49th overall, according to the study. New Jersey was the worst-performing state, the study found. Other places that also received an F grade included California, Illinois and Washington, DC. “They had high age-adjusted death rates, they had high unemployment and significant GDP losses, and they kept their schools shut down much longer than almost all other states,” the study said. Utah, Nebraska, Vermont and Florida — all governed by Republicans — topped the list. The study found that the states that locked down businesses, churches, schools and restaurants for lengthy periods did not have lower death rates than those that largely remained open. Nursing home policies may explain the poor mortality rates in some states, such as New Jersey and New York, where Cuomo faced backlash for an order that directed nursing homes to take COVID-19 patients. Meanwhile, Florida, whose GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis did away with COVID restrictions earlier on in the pandemic, ranked 28th in mortality, the study found. In comparison, heavily locked-down California came in 27th in terms of deaths. Keeping schools closed had no impact on the number of deaths in children or adults, according to the study. “The states that locked down their economies have had unemployment rates on average about two percentage points higher than states that did not engage in severe lockdowns,” the researchers added. “These high state unemployment rates have persisted for two years now. Most lockdown states have still not fully recovered the jobs lost in the early months of COVID.”
LOL... a former adviser to herman cain and donald trump. trump trying to appoint him to the Federal Reserve was laughable. And the guy attempted to stiff both the IRS and his ex wife. And hat's ignoring all the misogynistic comments he has made over his career.
Desantis gonna Desantis He has previously vetoed 2 redistricting maps the Republican majority passed along to him. The legislature has now told his office to draw the maps prior to the special session he called. Apparently one too many black representatives would be elected with the proposed maps. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/el...standoff-desantis-congressional-map-rcna23948
Make no mistake at some point a teacher's going to get murdered by right wing wackos, egged on by politicians like DeSantis, pundits like Tucker Carlovich, and legions of online right wing **** posters. @tinman @AroundTheWorld
Here is my issue. A teacher reads a book to first graders. The book is about Sally and her new puppy. The entire book is about the fun Sally has with her puppy. Except for one part. Sally was given the puppy by her two moms. You cannot tell me parents aren't going to flip out. Say that this is teaching their kids sexuality and they are going to sue. The law gives the parents that right
Remember in the Great Muppet Caper when Charles Grodin fell in love with Miss Piggy? I don't recall grappling with thoughts of bestiality and/or puppet buggery. Maybe that was just me though.
Unfortunately, there are wackos on all ends of the political spectrums and of all races and even most religions (although some have more wackos than others). Mostly men, though.
And..... Here is the story of the map DeSantis came up with... https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/el...amatically-expanding-gops-edge-flor-rcna24317 "None of the Legislature’s maps did this, and there’s a reason for this: The courts told us you can’t, and they said we can’t because it’s for partisan purposes,” said a top Republican involved in the redistricting effort. “If DeSantis wants to go to court and defend this, I hope he doesn’t mind getting deposed,” the Republican said.[/b]"
https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2022/04/florida-anti-crt-math-textbooks/ Florida’s Anti-Woke Crusade Has a New Target: Math Textbooks More than a third of K–12 textbooks were rejected for references to topics like critical race theory and Common Core material. Don't ask for examples...that doesn't matter. Math is TOO woke for Desantis.
Damn not a single like for that tweet... Wonder how learning about Maya Angelou is 'woke' and 'indoctrination'? Can someone against the 'woko haram' explain that to me? What? For learning about one of America's most prominent poets while doing math? The horror! The horror! Can't have students learning about one of the voices of the civil rights.
