Just on my way back from spending a few days with family in Cupertino. With me we’re other family members from the Midwest and we gorged ourselves at a couple of Taiwanese and Northern style Chinese restaurants because there are none In Minneapolis and few in the Midwest.

I know Houston has a few and for those who want a change from the usual fare of Cantonese and Sichuan style food that most restaurants in the US serve check out some of the Taiwanese and northern style places.

This place has gotten great reviews: https://ducknbao.com/

Did that used to be a different restaurant? I remember the location from years ago but can't remember what was there.

Then it's the same place I remember getting takeout from, glad to hear it's still there and still great.

Thinking about old places, just saw that Auntie Chang's Dumpling House is still around, I worked in that area and their steamed spinach and garlic dumplings were a regular quick lite-lunch pickup.

I disagree, Duck N Bao is pretty good if you don't want to go Bellaire or Katy Asian Town. Their Cypress location is probably the best Chinese restaurant in the area, since all the Chinese restaurants suck in Cypress

Their Pork Soup Dumplings is pretty on point, and their Crispy Spicy Chicken is just as good as Mala Sichuan's

I was being facetious. It’s easily my favorite Asian food in Houston right now, and it almost pains me to say that when my two favorite cuisines (not just Asian, but worldwide) are Thai and Vietnamese. I’ve only been to the memorial location, but their soup dumplings are the closest I’ve had to Din Tai Fung. And everything else I’ve had there is awesome too….though I’ve struggled to branch out past my mainstays. My personal opinion is that Duck N Bao ridiculously good.

Mein is pretty good. It kills me that they closed Night Market, and the Kanomwan went out of business, and Thai Gourmet has been crap the last three or four times I’ve had it. Can’t find any decent Thai food in Houston.

Thai Gourmet has been bad lately? That is a shame. My go-to yellow curry chicken and the spicy chicken noodles are amazing.
Thai Bistro on 59/Edloe is pretty solid. Good yellow curry and a good panang curry. Their Tom kha soup is also insanely good

Thanks for posting. The Xing Noodle place he was at was the kind of cuisine I was talking about earlier. Northern Chinese cuisine which we don't have any place like that in Minnesota. I'm going to look for that next time I'm in Houston.
