It seems insane to have people acting on behalf of shareholders if they have zero skin in the game.

Didn’t Musk actually say he doesn’t care about the economics at all?

“This is just my strong, intuitive sense that having a public platform that is maximally trusted and broadly inclusive is extremely important to the future of civilization,” Musk said. “I don’t care about the economics at all.”

So, here we have a zillionaire who openly admits that he doesn’t care about the economics of his investment (and why should he, he’s still a billionaire hundreds of times over without it), but just wants to impose his ideas on what he thinks is necessary for “the future of civilization”.

I'm overall neutral about Musk taking over Twitter and I'm thinking it's less likely to happen. I think he has some good ideas for Twitter but I don't think if he takes over Twitter it's going to turn into an unrestricted platform. From his TED talk it sounds like there still would be restrictions.

Musk seems insanely busy as is with all the stuff he’s into. Fixing Twitter is a huge undertaking. I agree — hard to imagine he goes through with it and starts making radical changes.

Then again, I was skeptical that Trump would actually want to be President even when he was campaigning, but I was wrong there.

Yes Musk is very hard to read but I don't think he was expecting this much resistance. Also since he's trying to seek financing for the takeover it might not be up to him if he's able to do it.

Unless he's willing to sell a bunch of his shares of Tesla. As a Tesla shareholder I am very against that.

Uhhh, the board of directors is literally hired by the shareholders to represent them. If they the shareholders had a problem with it, they have the ability to pick a different board of directors.

Or, you know, the company itself and its shareholders might do it. In capitalism, Elon doesn't have some inherent right to own Twitter.

Probably because he understands a pump and dump scheme when he sees one. Funny how Elon Musk being investigated for stock manipulation by the SEC is a dirty trick now.

Not surprising to me that he's doing this. He's ambitious and quick to jump onto popular shiny things, almost like a popcult addiction with him. Thin-skinned too when it doesn't go his way.

With that said, with his drive, he probably will do wonders for Twitter for himself (that means it's not some crazy fully open platform without moderation - the bandwagon folks that jumped on Musk for "free speech" are being played).

He's becoming a cult icon, and I suspect is taking a page out of Trump in how he used social media to gain influence and power.

He's full of himself but he's not immoral like Trump. I have been a fan of his ideas and how he explains and demo things (in the long format) since a long time ago. But yes, Twitter gave him a recent new outlet, with close to 100m followers and he is using it to his advantage.

You would be. Funny how you always bring up stuff like that yet make fun of me for bringing up Trump.

So does he plan on letting propaganda and lies be spread like wildfire to brainwash the weak, without any fact checks on posts that are flat out lies? Does he plan on letting hate groups spew dangerous and toxic posts? Does he plan on allowing Twitter to become an environment with anything allowed, no matter what? Just wondering how far he would let the terrorists or dangerous people go with their posts or replies. I guess it could be a good outlet for the FBI to monitor potential serial killers or domestic terrorists if he did.
