Some of it is just watching 8 years of this... but the comment on Paolo "he doesn't make quick decisions when he gets the ball. He's very much a catch and purvey the situation"... he goes on to not that he then makes FANTASTIC choices after stopping to make the decision.... I just dont like watching that style... its one of the things that frustrates me most about KPJ. Yeah, with generational talent it works, otherwise its annoying to watch imo
Ivey has that upside as well, but from your description I could definitely see him going top 5. It’s such a wildcard not having seen him play at the same level as the other top prospects.
Banchero has some damn good footwork, that's his elite skill. It's Olajuwon like. Drop step, spin move, fade, bully. This is the Houston Rockets I want my legacy of bigs! He is built somewhat like Blake/Randle he does not play like them. I get bring up advanced metrics but the roles and strength of conferences impacts those. Banchero just did more because he had to do more and he could do more. Small sample size but does anyone have stats vs top 25 teams for these prospects? A pull up 15-18ft is more difficult than a spot up 3, we know this. Now I didn't watch every Gonzaga/Duke/Auburn game because that's just not my idea of fun. I saw Duke more than the others, hard to miss with them being all over the place. (I have the Big 10 network saw plenty of Ivey.) Banchero has got to be the biggest overthink in a long time. Maybe it's the Duke connection? The guy can do it all and when his team gets "hit in the mouth" they lean on him. That didn't happen for the other top guys... Not saying they couldn't do it but Jabari doesn't have great hands I mean Auburn literally runs pnr and cuts to the rim all game and Jabari is hardly the roll man... He is more of a bail out shoot a 3 or open mid range. If he puts the ball on the floor you're asking for a turnover. I'm pretty certain the people wanting him have never really watched Auburn. Typical Smith game offensively... He doesn't go above Banchero or Holmgren. Chet is good defensively however if he projects as a 4 at the next level his value decreases a bit. I only saw his Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA and tourney games. Offensively he was not great and in his final game against St. Mary a team with size and game planning for him/Timme really shut them down. His defense is good but not like the crazy lines you see when he is playing in conference. Chet/Banchero have done enough to complete separate themselves from the other two but Chet just has more flags with fluidity and body.
I get you like Banchero. But please don’t compare him to Olajuwon. He doesn’t have anywhere near the footwork that Olajuwon does. Also, Chet is more fluid and a better athlete than Banchero as a whole.
LOL Triple down on your disinformation now? I have never said Tari Eason was better than Banchero. Just more disinformation to distract. You are better than this man.
Yes, exactly why I like Jabari, because I know he can be a zone buster with his good height going to free throw area and his catch & shoot 3's. I'm expecting more zone defense in the NBA going further. Banchero bread and butter is the bully-ball post up......meh. That doesn't play well vs zone defense. In fact it sucks.
WTF statement of a lifetime. Find me video of Chet the athlete, I'd really like to see it. Chet's not an athlete - he's tall. The dude's a gimmick - if he's the pick it will be a huge momentum killer for the franchise. He's 12ppg 6rpg and 3 or 4bpg at best. I think you can get 8ppg 10rpg and the same bpg from Kessler with the Bk pick. Banchero could end up being the focal point of a half court offense ala Karl Malone or Chris Webber - I think with those comps you're approaching Paolo's floor and ceiling and that's pretty good either way.
Chet is as fluid as Banchero is. Go look at him when he was used as a fluid athlete and not the stiff positioning they did at Gonzaga. The reason Chet is such a tantalizing prospect is because he could be Dirk Nowitzki with defense. He's already a better defender than Paolo will ever be. Banchero just has a better body and a more polished offensive game right now. Chet has the framework to become as good or better of an offensive player as Paolo and is already a better shooter from deep. Chet is a safer pick than Paolo is and has more upside. He's not Shawn Bradley or Darko Milicic.
Yeah, read any scouting report. Chet is better than Paolo in pretty much every facet. The fact that you compared Paolo to Malone and Webber is just freaking laughable. That’s the WTF comment of a lifetime
Paolo is Malone now? Lol he’s closer to Post Malone than he is to Karl Malone if we’re gonna play that game
This is what I think as well. It's easy to fall in love when you see highlights of an athletic 6'10" guy with great length knocking down threes with ease. You start assuming he has all these other parts to his game...when he actually doesn't.
Questioning his athleticism and calling him a gimmick is a clear sign that someone hasn’t watched Chet actually play. he’s very fluid and athletic… but extremely so given his size. It’s a qualifier but a relevant one cause his size is what makes him so special. I think he’s fluid in the same category as Paolo but not the same athlete as Paolo. he’s a much more fluid wing type athlete than Jabari.
-_- I'm talking about his footwork... People have no problem likening Sengun's footwork to Olajuwon and Banchero's footwork is more fluid. Banchero utilitized this constitently throughout season, like Kenny mentioned the 24 second clock is actually going to help Banchero because it will force him to just go quicker instead of trying to find the "best" shot. We'll have the combine results here in a couple of months but my eye test doesn't lead to Chet being a great athlete. Like Bol bol his athleticism/fluidity is good because they are above 7ft. He is fluid but from what I've seen it isn't on Banchero level. I didn't watch HS, international play.
Why are you expecting more zone defense to be a thing in the NBA? I really don't think you'd want Jabari with the ball in his hands at high post or top of key... Literally asking for a TO.
One way to break a zone is killing it from 3, this would force defenders to play man or hybrid. Especially if it forces the bigs to vacate the paint, then offense has more options.
I’ve never been more torn on a player than I am with Chet. He is a good athlete, he does things a guy his height probably shouldn’t do, but I can’t get around his weight. He’s just too ****ing scrawny. There is absolutely no way in hell I would take him over Smith. No way at all ever. But if he falls, which I think he will, he would be a fun prospect for someone.
Paolo has better feet in the face up, but he won’t be faster in any testing. There is 2-3 inches in height difference between the 2, that’s not making that much of a difference. Chet is a better athlete than Paolo in almost every way.
Because the tall skinny PF slash Centers that can shoot 3's are becoming more and more prevalent. Raptors won a championship with Kawhi while Nick Nurse pushed the zone defensively to protect either Marc Gasol or Valancunias. Miami has played a ton of zone defense since. Used it quite a bit this season to a number 1 seed. BamBam doesn't shoot 3's and doesn't help the offense much other than screens and playing the dunker spot; but with his rim protection and mobility to help defend the 3-point line......make the D work. Cavs and Raptors are showing getting long lengthy players can be an invaluable asset as it allows for good defensive coverage in the form of zone defensive possibilities. Rockets have dabbled with zone for 3 or 4 possessions most of the year and more often in the final two month of the season. Problem is Wood is our only true mobile big and Sengun is not exactly the poster child for big defending the perimeter in rotation. This is why I would prefer Jabari Smith 6'10" and Keegan Murray 6'8".....even the athletic leaping ability and super mobile Mathurin 6'6". It's coming......and as the video you posted, showed the team struggled to figure out the zone but eventually did. And Jabari has a nice quick catch and shoot 3 around the perimeter that is difficult to block at 6'10". Much like it's hard to block Durant and his long arms. Banchero can shoot 3's as well but is not as proficient at 3.3 three point attempts per game. Jabari is 5.5 three point attempts per game. I'm all for increasing Jabari 3PA's to around 8 per game.....not saying Banchero can't do it eventually; but I told @D-rock before the draft that Evan Mobley wasn't a 3-pt shooter.....he ended up with 1.3 per game. That doesn't break a zone defense. So you want Mobley for the defense.....which the Cavs dropped to 21st during the time Jarrett Allen went down.
