The Rockets have made it clear that they are happy with Coach Silas’ progress and he is being welcomed back next year. This is after back to back worst seasons/records in the entire NBA. No coach in NBA history has had the worst record his first two years and come back for a third. It shows that being “nice” still has value in this crazy world and the Rockets organization deserves much credit for honoring and rewarding this trait over less important things like putting fans in the seats.
At this point there's no reason to fire Silas. This team still has holes in the roster to fill, it has young players that still need playing time, etc. I'm one of Silas' biggest critics but moving on from him right now doesn't significantly improve anything. If this team ends up with a top 3 pick and is still floundering by the middle of the season and/or our core young roster plateaus (or worse, regress) then yea can the guy.
I’ve seen some nice individual progress from the young prospects. That’s all we should be focused on at this point. That alone deserves another year.
We may still have a year left of tanking/not putting our best roster on the floor, no issue letting Mr.Charmin have another season.
everybody wanted the Rockets to tank and get a top pick…check everybody wanted the young players to show promise and improve…check so stop all that gawddamn crying
We need him to tank this last season before the actual come-up. We will hopefully win some games next year and start to show "promise" but the narrative will slowly become Silas is on the hot seat. After we secure a top 8 pick next year, we will have cap space and solid improvement from the rookies. That will be the time for the "re-brand" and ascent into contention for the playoffs by adding a new head coach and some solid vets to our core. Just enjoy the smiles from Silas in the meantime.
Sounds like a lot more losing coming our way….only problem is that I have a winners mentality and being told we need to accept losing for the next few years doesn’t cut it. Two years of worst records and being told we need to go through this again is called accepting defeat. The improvement of talented youth happens the more they play and the credit needs to go with who works with them individually and that is John Lucas. We’ve got a billion dollar owner and a five year plan counting on the likes of toothpick Chet Holmgren to become Shaquille O’Neal or Hakeem Olajuwon is ludicrous. We have some talent and played a LOT of mediocre teams where their stars sat out or were injured and still were defeated and outcoached. Sometimes making a big change is needed to show you care about the fans and winning!!!
Nope. That's too many years of our young guys not playing in meaningful games. Next season Silas needs to be judged by his record. If they don't cross at least 30 wins next season which is still a low bar he should be immediately fired.
Some folks around here want a winning team AND top picks. Theoretically, that could happen in a couple years if Brooklyn becomes bad and the Rockets get good. Not happening right now though.
Player development was very good. The asinine rotations were not. If you are going to tank then why weren't Nix, Christopher, Garuba (Okay he was hurt a lot this season), etc. playing more minutes for their development or to see what you actually have going into next season? The question we don't have the answer to is was it Stone or Silas wanting to play certain players with specific minutes?
Some folks r just short sighted and lack patience. We tried for years to have a winning mentality b4 the harden era and that literally got us no where. If u want to see that, go watch the Spurs currently. Too much pride and winning mentality still gets ass blasted in play in and bounce after one game. It too obvious they lack talent. We have too many roster issues that needs to b addressed b4 even thinking of competing. R we getting rid of wood, Gordon and wall? R we lock in with kpj as pg? Who is the back up pg? Who r we even drafting? Etc. Etc. Etc. We didn't even seen enough of uraba yet. R we gonna promote queen and nix to join us next year? The rookies r improving and that's a positive.
Xopher…you actually get it. Thanks for bringing up the proper analysis. Silas tried his best with Wood, Gordon, Schroder, etc. until the last few games (which I give 100% pass on as he did the right thing for the pick he almost blew) yet he still only improved 3 games this year and had losing streaks of 10 plus games a whopping 4 times. Last year we had major player improvement at the end just like this year and we still had a 16 game losing streak to begin the season. He coaches like his dad (which is admirable/honorable from a family sense) but sadly his dad struggled mightily putting wins on the floor. My main point is that there is no reason for a free pass in this league and he is definitely getting one. Frank Vogel got fired and they were an old outdated injured team, but no free passes in other towns because they do not accept losing without consequences!
It's not "accepting" anything. It's being honest and reasonable with the roster and roster restraints accompanied with our contracts/salaries. Leadership has already seemed to usher in the "give youth playing time" by benching all the vets down the stretch. And while yeah, we did lose a lot, the rookies really started growing and improving. I believe we will see that further next year by trading the current vets and let the rookies sink or swim. And like most young players they likely will sink. Probably bottom 5 record and a top 8 pick. But it will give the young players the experience they need. The following off-season we will adopt your philosophy of "absolutely no more losing" because we won't own our draft picks anymore and we will have a tonnn of cap space. So we are leveraging our positions to yield the highest possibility of return value. Why you can't see that is baffling to me.
I can’t stand these takes from Rockets fans. If anything, if/when the Rockets win a championship thanks to the young talent we’ve accumulated in these tanking years… we better be thanking Silas for executing the plan flawlessly. Put his jersey in the rafters if/when it works out. Stop the bellyaching as many posters have mentioned.
I swear. Year 3 of the process, we go on one hot streak, same anti tank folks would b delusional enough to think our team is ready to compete starts a thread reignitng the debate tank vs winning. just to b brought back to reality as we suck enough to draft another top tier talent hopefully in the form of wembaya.
