It's hard to believe so many states still celebrate guys as heroes who fought for the right to beat, rape, mutilate, and murder other human beings in whatever way they found profitable or pleasurable. It is an official state holiday in Alabama, Mississippi, and South Carolina; while it is commemorated in Kentucky, Florida, North Carolina, Texas, and Tennessee. It was also formerly recognized in Georgia, Louisiana, and Virginia.

The sad news is... what Maher is saying is true. They are going more and more extreme. Heck, palin is running again, and will win. The two chuckleheads (boebert and mtg) will win again when they run for re-election. candace owens sits there and shrugs, winces, and laughs but she is a key spokesperson for a party that is going away from policy discussion and debate and more towards, well, this.
Republicans have normalized being terrible people enough so that it no longer impacts their candidates electability. How do Dems compete with this?
trump is predictable. He favors "winners" and hates "losers". I suspect he will view palin as a loser. Plus connected to John McCain. Biggest priority for trump will be how much the VP candidate has sucked up to him. I suspect if anything he will choose whoever sucks up to him the most. If he were to choose a woman it would be nikki haley. Or tulsi gabbard. Both of them have sucked up to trump a lot. Or desantis... he has sucked up plenty.
