How did this nerd Parag even get promoted into that role? Every public statement I have read from him since he took over was incredibly dumb, and beta.

In an interview with MIT Technology Review in November 2020, when asked about freedom of speech, Agrawal said: "Our role is not to be bound by the First Amendment, but our role is to serve a healthy public conversation ... [and to] focus less on thinking about free speech, but thinking about how the times have changed."

WTF is that even supposed to mean.

Also, I just realized I have had interactions with his wife, lol.

I was able to track down the full interview from which your quote comes:

EmTech Stage: Twitter’s CTO on misinformation | MIT Technology Review

Haven't read it myself, but perhaps that will help clear it up.

I love the First Amendment redirect, as if that's the only thing free speech depends upon

By the way, Elon is also reducing our dependence on oil.

Clearly, the woke boyz at Twitter had no problem with a corrupt Saudi billionaire with questionable ties to human rights violations being one of their largest shareholders.

But once they are scared of Elon taking their extra buttons away...oh my.

Mr. Musk, a self-proclaimed champion of free speech said it should be up to the public shareholders and not the board to accept his bid. He said this isn't about money but democracy, calling the platform a de-factor town square. All good and cool. However, this company must then become private under the control of a single man in order for changes to happen for the good of the public and democracy.

Why am I'm being reminded of some totalitarian tendency?

I assume Elon Musk would agree that platforms like Twitter are ripe for abuse by groups who want to spread misinformation. If he's serious about buying Twitter and fixing it, and I'm not totally convinced he is, I'd like him to address (a) whether he agrees that is a problem, and (b) what he would do to mitigate that problem while preserving his conception of "free speech".

This is such a bad argument.

Did the Saudi billionaire try to buy it and take it private?
