I can't see a lot of people paying $50k up front after the vaporware that is the cybertruck (so far). This almost seems like a joke...
Elon must be running low on capital again, here comes another scam to get interest-free loans from the public. See: Cybertruck preorders, Model S Plaid+, Full Self Driving...
People pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for cars. 45k for the fastest car in the world is pocket change for more people than you realize.
New Mercedes EV can run 650miles on a single charge. https://www.theverge.com/2022/1/3/22855555/mercedes-benz-vision-eqxx-ev-range-ces-2022 Tesla batteries are not the best.
The real test is going to be how fast Ford can roll out the F-150 electric. I think that is going to be the first real competitor.
While that range would finally get me into definitely buying an electric as opposed to "wait and watch" mode, a few things : 1) The EQXX is a prototype vehicle right now 2) Even if it were to go into production in the next year or two, in its current form and tech, it would be a well-into 6-figure car. That dash itself may cost as much as a normal car. lol. Maybe in a year or two it'll be less, but ... If that battery tech (assuming it's legit) alone could make it into a vehicle downstream on the chain, it would be awesome (and probably cost a nice upcharge). For right now, this just looks like a halo vehicle and a prototype of a halo vehicle, at that.
When battery/range become this good, Tesla's advantage in charging network will matter less and less...
Oh crap, I didn't scroll down and my first thought earlier was "that's a sweet looking car". Horrible.
