Seemed like they wanted Tark in order for him to fix games.

I don't remember much from that era except that UNLV later made it big in the 90s.

Tark was a successful college coach in the LA area; Pasadena CC and then Calif State U Long Beach.

thanks to some controversial calls in the last 2 min---favoring UCLA---his Long Beach State team almost beat the eventual NCAA champ in a tournament game.
Tark, not Long Beach State, went on to file a complaint to the NCAA, which spelled the end of his Long Beach State tenure.

btw, at long beach state, he developed Ed Ratleff, a first team all american, who was later a Rockets first round pick

I'm up to episode 4 and I have several waiting on my DVR. Just can't get motivated to watch due to all the fluff. I'm a nerd and I prefer non-fiction to be as true to life as possible.

    Should I still watch?

Yeah. It tickles me in a spot I've never really been tickled in. Well done content centered around my love for basketball.

Yeah, I'm on it every Sunday. Never knew so much about Buss. That Jerry West is a real character. No wonder Michael Cooper was so skinny--dude was full of nervous energy all the time. So far, the only sane people in the whole show are Cookie and maybe Jamaal Wilkes.

Enjoyed the quick 80s Rockets cameos with Murphy, Barry and Moses even if it was only from the back....

The casting on this has been pretty incredible....

The show is kind of funny
but I don't take too too much of it as accurate
    loosely accurate

"Instead of exploring his issues with compassion as a way to better understand the man, they turn him into a Wile E. Coyote cartoon to be laughed at," Abdul-Jabbar said in a statement. "He never broke golf clubs, he didn't throw his trophy through the window. Sure, those actions make dramatic moments, but they reek of facile exploitation of the man rather than exploration of character."

    Well said by Kareem.

I’ve been watching this series, but my enthusiasm for it is waning as I’ve come to realize how far it’s departed from reality. I would have preferred a documentary to this. Jerry West is portrayed like a nutcase in this show. Has anyone here read the book? How is he portrayed in it?

Was never pitched as a documentary (there are several good ones about that period of the Lakers and NBA). I've never gone in to the Death of Stalin or Our Flag Means Death or The Great or The Wolf of Wall Street or anything "based on a true story" and expected anything else than entertainment with a nod to history.

People are who Hollywood says they are. Get used to it West. If you want your own promo movie do what Schumacher did and beat them to it. Always draw first.
