Whats the point of making the playins if you just gonna get swept or go 1-4 in the first round? I mean which scenario sets you up for a better season: 1: Make the playoffs. Get swept. Get 16th pick 2: get the the worst record. Get 1st pick. Draft Lebron Ok so there might not be a Lebron every time but there have been lots of good players going top 3. Getting a top 3 draft sets you better than getting swept in the first round. Players dont remember the glory of making the playin they always remember the last round they get which would be the first round sweep and beatdown by the no 1 seed. How much development did Chuck Haye and Luis Scola get getting pounded by Gasol and Kobe by 30 pts in the first round can you tell me? Cleveland has maxxed out precisely cuz they stopped tanking. Garland and Mobley are a nice 1-2 combo but since they wanna stop tanking and get on the treadmill this is all they are ever gonna be. Everyone applauding them now cuz they shown the growth yiu want. But they wont be applauding 5 yrs from now when Cleveland still just a playoff team. Its the same thing here tanking and getting a no 1 pick gets you more benefits than getting 3 16th picks in a row. 3 yrs of suckage or 7 yrs or mediocrity you should know which is the better option.

This team did not intentionally lose games (until the last week / 10 days). There was no "Organizational Tank." This team tried to win. they didn't trade away all their vets at the deadline, they played vets along with the young guys and they just weren't a good basketball team. They were the worst team in the NBA (and it wasn't even close) until Portland went full on organizational tank. There's one other thing just about everyone is overlooking and that's the fact that a top 5 pick today isn't like a top 5 pick 15-20 years ago when players stayed in college 4 years Vs today's one and done or G-League for a year. Today we are not drafting "finished products" who can come in and make an immediate impact we're drafting potential .... and it has to be developed..... That takes time which means more losses - More time in the lottery.. They probably don't win more than 28 games next year no matter who they draft - but that would mark a significant improvement. It's gonna take 3-4 years for Green and Co to grow into the players that they ultimately become .... and this year's rookies will be a year behind them on the learning curve. The really good thing is after next season they have a clean cap and will be able to spend if there's someone out there worth the money. The 23-24 season is when we should expect to see some return on the investment.
I may be wrong. I believe the Rockets may still try to get a top pick again next season. When i say top, I mean around top 7-8ish. There are a lot of PG's in the top 10 as of now. They can do this by playing 6 players under the age of 21. Martin 21 years old. Tate/KPJ both having not played a tremendous amount of games yet. That is 8 players that should be in the rotation. Doing this will in fact give you a bad record to attain a high pick that you could get a PG with or trade along with some of the young players and/or Nets picks for a star to add to the core of Sengun/Green/top 5 pick this year. The other thing it does is give you the best chance of taking a huge step the following season 23/24 as you said.
I actually don't think it's a bad spot to be in this year. I don't think there is a clear number 1 pick. Sharpe and Murray are players that teams could be high so one of the "big 4" could still be available at 4.
I honestly feel we could have won more games with a more experienced head coach than Silas, providing if he could trust and guide the youngsters well.
