KPJ seemed to hit his stride to end the season. Did something click for him or is it just a matter of time before it all comes crashing back down? Thoughts?

Kevin Porter Jr. reading Twitter and all the posts on Clutchfans about how he isn’t a point guard and needs to be a 6th man after averaging 28.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 7.4 assists over the last 7 games.

He always had the talent, its the upstairs everyone questions.

Imagine if he left at half time or threw soup in a temper tantrum in the postseason.

    Gotta calm down.

I will say KPJ does look a lot better without wood. Maybe Wood is the problem.

    Ask me next February.

That said, there's a lot to build on.

As a player he’s taken a step this year and shown that he has special talent. But as recently as a month ago he embarrassed himself with his immaturity on the court. A lot will depend on how he conducts himself next year.

As a player, yes. As a person, not so sure. He could have a pout session at any moment and ruin all this momentum he has built up.

Stress has weighed heavy on him as he has tried to learn starting PG
at a fast paced rate. He has found out the world doesn't always work
according to your schedule. Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches.
    Juke-n-Jive-Bob-n-Weave.

He hasn't pulled a knife on any of the refs has he? He knows millions of dollars
are at stake. Dallas Cowboys hired a handler (baby sitter) to watch Michael Irving.
If need be the Rockets can hire a handler. That way Porter doesn't throw people
through the plate of glass like Barkley.....the handler does.

per discussion earlier about a "Pure Point Guard"

Mavs in 19/20 had the most efficient offense with: Assists per Game:
    JJ Barea.....3.9
    Brunson......3.3
    Trey Burke...3.8
    Hardaway....1.9
    Delon Wright..3.3
    Doncic............8.8
    ___________________
........................= 25.0 asts per game on the average
    ....................................between top players in rotation.

Rockets this season 21/22: (season averages)
    Sengun........2.5
    Josh Christopher....2.0
    J Green.......2.6
    Tate.............2.9
    Wood...........2.3
    Porter jr.......6.2
    __________________
    ..................= 18.5 assists.

What if....they average "X-amount" next year:
    Sengun..........5.0
    Christopher....3.0
    J Green...........4.0
    Tate.................3.5
    Wood...............2.8
    Porter jr............7.0
    ____________________
......................= 25.3 assists on the average (stats of past 3 months may be actually
    ..................................closer to these numbers)

Add whatever Kenyon, others and a new addition give us in the form of Jabari, Chet, Ivey or Banchero.
As more targets provide more assist opportunities. Takes two to tango, as with assists.

He has talent, but you expect a lot more out of him in terms of maturity after everything that happened in Cleveland. He's had some sort of incident every season he's been in the NBA.

At the end of the day, even though he is talented, he is nowhere near the top end of the NBA talent pool to have this much baggage, especially when the offense already runs through him so much. If he has another incident next season, I'm not sure if he's the type of player the Rockets should stick with, regardless of how well he plays.

That being said, he's been on an upward trend as of late, and the hardworking rookies are hopefully beginning to rub off on him too.

You’ve got to remember how young he is. He might mature and grow out of some of his issues, but then again he might not. I think he has star potential as a 2, but I just don’t like him as a point. It feels forced. I want him to succeed, but I’m not there yet in terms of trusting him. It wouldn’t surprise me if he became a perennial all-star, but I could just as easily see him out of the league in four years. I do think he took some nice steps this season. Hopefully he’ll continue to develop in the offseason.

He is starting to trust his teammates a bit more. He's important to the team, but he can blow up if he gets mad. I liked how he finished the season. I want to retain him.

It's still a no for me but his play recently makes it hard to say. He's definitely talented and he has progressed nicely but I'd still prefer to move on.

I don't like the idea of having a potential locker room cancer when your trying to build a core. I also don't like him as a pg long term. He seems like a perfect 6th man and I just don't see him accepting that role in this team.

But I will say he's bought another year here on the team, and if he progresses in his maturity I can see myself changing my mind.

I’ve been defending KPJ all season.
Definitely happy with his growth as a player especially as a shooter.

I do still like him better as a wing than a lead guard. He has a lot work to do in terms of running a winning offense but he also has plenty of time.

As far as off the court issues. I don’t expect a perfect season from him temperament wise. Childhood Trauma takes years or a lifetime to recover from.

My only expectation is that he continues bounces back strong from whatever episodes he has going forward.

If we resign/extend him like I think we will. I think 12-15 mil per year is reasonable. Especially with Wall, Gordon and Possibly Wood off the books.

I wonder what his trade value is?

If it’s high, I might sell high on KPJ.

He got his turnovers under control mid way through the season, HUGE plus

I have no confidence in his attitude, he showed some pretty horrific displays of immaturity and emotional outburst this season

He's still a decisively inefficient scorer, despite it being his 3rd year in the league, despite him having all the talent to score efficiently. His catch and shoot 3-ball is money, his finishing ability at the rim is good. His ISO's are complete trash he needs to stop, everything between the 3PT line and restricted area is trash that needs to stop, an he's got to make his FTs.

I think we should move him in the off season to a better situation for him, he needs structure and this organization isn't close to having any.

Question begs why do they keep soups around players when surely this is no cafetaria?
