I fear that number might actually be much higher.

What shocks me is how many Russians who have even been living in the West are still very defiant and supportive of this war. It's difficult to believe this is "just Putin's war". Russian soldiers have been murdering and raping people for 100+ years, and there has never really been any objective acknowledgment of guilt.

I am Facebook friends/connected on Instagram with this girl who works at Google Germany and who has been living in Germany for like 20 years or so.

When the war started, she posted this:

It's quite obvious that she is supportive of the war and very defiant. She has also been posting obscure pro-Russia conspiracy theories on Facebook. I would unfriend her, but I am fascinated to follow how much more crazy crap she will be posting. All her German friends seem to be too polite to tell her to cut the crap. I see very few likes, but a few comments in Russian of people who agree with her.

I just don't get it. I find it disgusting. Why are people like that?

Meanwhile, the insane establishment leaders in Washington are actually working to escalate this conflict. We need to be working towards stopping it and towards establishing peace.

It can be done. There is a way. But the so-called "leaders" in Washington are not helping. On the contrary, they are making this situation worse and a number of them and their partners in the corporate media are now openly calling for war with Russia.

WWIII anyone? It would be a way for the Democrats to distract attention from their current political difficulties, if nothing else.

Hopefully everyone agrees that this is a very bad idea and an agenda being promoted by people who are arguably full-on insane.

Nationalism is a very strong force and I can understand someone who grew up in Russia under that worldview might find it hard to turn against that country and leadership.

Frankly I consider it more disturbing that we see people even here in America rationalize and justify Russia's actions.

And what do you suggest we should be doing? Not arming Ukraine, just allowing Russia to take the country, dissolving NATO?

We should work with the Russians to reestablish the status quo that existed from roughly WWII to 2008, under which we had officially recognized certain nations as being off limits for NATO expansion, political meddling or NATO military involvement.

We should make our goal to deescalate this terrible war, rather than work to escalate it, as these lunatic incompetent fools have been doing.

And those offers were made to Putin before the war started. The US and other countries said several times that there were no plans for Ukraine to join NATO. Macron met with Putin several times with an offer of alternative security arrangements that wouldn't involve Ukraine joining NATO.

Further don't you think that Russia shelling civilians is a big reason why the war is escalating?

LOL, this never happened. You literally are repeating USSR propaganda:

    https://www.rferl.org/a/nato-expansion-russia-mislead/31263602.html

Beyond that, 7 Eastern European states joined NATO in 2004 after 3 others had joined in 1999. The 2008 timeline doesn't even make sense.
