So I would like to buy a bike or an e-bike for myself and my wife. I have no ambition to really go super far with it, just want to cycle around the neighborhood. Also want to get some bikes for our children. It's almost completely flat where we will be (Florida, duh), but I guess the roads can be a bit bumpy sometimes, with potholes or something. I don't want to spend a whole lot, but would like to buy something that doesn't fall apart immediately.

    Any recommendations?

You could get a hardtail mountain bike and you have the versatility to go off road if necessary. The benefit of the mountain bike is its easier to handle especially if you haven't rode a bike in a while.

The ebike is really overdoing it unless you are riding some where with lots of hills and your fitness level won't allow you to handle that type of riding.

Shocks, wide tires, and the most comfortable seat and hand grips you can find.

If you can find an Trek Allant+ 7S in XL it is a very good e-bike. 28 mph, good battery.
