Ya that’s part of the issue. He’s a low end starter so paying him max money basically cripples your franchise.
If I'm Raefel Stone, I wouldn't so a thing until I fire Silas. To me, you don't really know what you have because Silas has been so bad at coaching. I hate to say it but if you were to trade Wood at this point, you would be trading an asset without knowing Wood deserves starters mins but not a max contract. I would give him a 2 - 3 extension of $25M - 30M per. I think he has somethings he need to work on but he's a 20/10 player. He needs more time with these players.
He's an empty stat chaser on the worst team in basketball that is awful off the court and plays no defense. You trade him for whatever you can get and hope his negative attitude hasn't rubbed off too much on your younger players.
What do you do with him ? ..... If it were up to me, I'd give him just what he seems to want - to play as a wing instead of a big. We know he cannot defend big men. We've seen him defend smaller players well on the perimeter. See if he can do that full time and put someone down low who can defend the paint, set good picks and finish as the roll man.
Banchero fits with almost none of perceived core players on this roster. Not great fit with Green. Horrific fit with Sengun, Wood, KPJ and Tate. Chet/Jabari fits every core member to a "T". Especially with Green and Sengun.
I don't worry about the money, that's Stone's job. And Rockets will need to pay a few guys, especially when Wall's salary is off books. And not seeing any FA worth their salt being interested in playing for Rockets. Rockets will have to overpay even for average players nevermind a superstar.
But that doesn’t mean you should just throw away cap space. We don’t need stars tomorrow, the team needs time. Still need to be as bad as possible for 1 more year
I have not missed him at all. It's been great not having him out there recently, although, I feel like he was working better with the team just before he got shut down.
Who's throwing away cap space? You're not even sure what he'd make or what cap situation will look like next season.
while I agree that Houston as a rebuilding team is gonna have a challenge attracting FA talent, I do think Jalen Green is starting to be seen as a future star. If we can maybe not be the worst team in the league next year, and improve through the year, we just might be able to attract some difference-making 2023 free agents. I think tanking next year has to be a last resort. At some point winning and looking like a team on the rise is as valuable as getting a lotto pick, especially if we can get one or two core players out of this draft or through trade. We’re not desperate to win next year but we need to demonstrate real improvement.
I mean he will definitely make more then the 8-10 I would be happy to pay him (happy is strong, I would tolerate it as he would have some trade value at a low number). If he gets to 20 and becomes a negative asset, that will suckkkkk
Im curious. What makes Paolo a bad fit with Green and KPJ? I thought he had good chemistry with Trevor Keels and Roach. I agree with him fitting bad with Sengun/Wood and Tate tho. Also agree with Chet/Jabari being perfect fits for us.
All 3 need to dominate the ball to be successful. All 3 are at their best playing iso ball. And Banchero is not a great spacer, prefers to play in/near the paint which makes it much harder for Green moreso than KPJ to attack rim. And all 3 + Sengun are not elite defenders, nor do they have elite wingspans for their positions. On a team that is absolute cheeks on defense already, especially defending the rim + creating disruptions, this would be horrific. Finally - Banchero not elite rebounder for a big, on a team that needs to rebound better.
Firing Silas would be dumb in so many different ways. First off, you TRIED to lose for draft purposes. Second, the roster has been so plagued with injuries no coach in the league would've produced with this bunch. The expectation was never high. So judging Silas because he didn't let Sengun foul out every night is stupid
Banchero is Jahlil Okafor/Jabari Parker 2.0, I wouldn't have him on my board in the Top 5. Holmgren, Smith, Ivey, Murray, or Mathurin.
If you're Stone, finding a fit for Sengun shouldn't be anybody's priority. Green is the core piece to build around here. Plus if we draft Jabari it means Sengun is going to the bench anyway. Not sure how Sengun is mentioned as if he's a superstar.
Makes perfect sense. It would probably take a “Rudy Gobert” level rim protector to make that trio work defensively. I’m just trying to make a case for any of the top 4 until we know exactly where we draft. I think my personal favorite scenario is picking both Jabari and Mark Williams. I like Sengun but I’m hoping Garuba can develop into a starter. Him and Jabari as switching wings would be my ideal. That article about Jabari’s work ethic has me sold on him.
