Who cares (and I'm a guy who's always interested in hearing the reasoning behind things), it's an indefensible move.
Agree completely. Bregman is really hot and you rest him the third game of the season against a division rival. Really stupid in my opinion. Dusty sometimes just makes moves to make moves not from any real logic. Pulling Javier was also stupid, given that the Angels has so many good right handed hitters on their bench. So one of your best hitters is unavailable, what do you do? Oh, I know, you also sit one of your best hitters for no reason whatsoever.
Whose gonna tell Dusty he's fired for his stupid personnel moves for last game? Lose Yuli and sit Bregman. Great idea. F-ing dope!
We have Siri leading off ladies and gentlemen! Didn’t even have to wait for the second series of the season.
Brantley on pace for 100 more AB’s than Tucker should be a fireable offense. Hitting Goodrum 3rd should be a fireable offense. This is basic strategy that’s really not worth discussing in this day and age- we know the answer to all this shot and Dusty is choosing to do it definitively wrong. No- it’s not as important as some people think it is (lineup construction) Yes- the #9 guy can come up with the game on the line while the #2 hitter never has an important at bat. But- we are intentionally limiting our ability to win the most games and we are doing it in a basic way that requires zero though beforehand. It’s not an in game decision that’s hard to process in real time. You literally have all the time in the world to get this right and they choose not to. I don’t understand it. I blame Click totally and completely. Does Dusty not know? Does Click not tell him? Does he not have enough authority to say- listen up mother****er stop trotting out lineups where the worst or second worst hitter on the team bats in the first inning? It’s really odd. if we were playing black jack together and Crane staked me with money would click slap me on the back and say “go with your gut” as I kept hitting 16 against a 6? Worse yet- if I told him ahead of time my strategy was to double down on 8 against dealer face card or something would he say “you’ve got to be true to yourself- do what you are going to do!” It’s beyond dumb. I don’t get it at all
In years past it would not have been possible to fill out a lineup with only 3 demonstrated above average hitters, yet here we are.
If the Astros don't consider these games meaningful I'm not sure why we should. They're playing baseball not Rugby. 4 games and a day off to start the season, it's stupid to be sitting guys this series, particularly with Yuli out. With Brantley off, the lefty BS doesn't even fly today. Zero reason Tucker shouldn't be hitting 1st or 2nd.
I would rather forfeit and give everyone a day off on the same day than whatever this is. Rest Trout, Double creature feature and Marsh you cowards!
If they sat 3 players it absolutely was possible. SS is literally the only position that is different from last season, and Pena may be good.
To be fair Altuve isn’t exactly hitting it out of the water to start. Neither is Brantley. But still. Angels and Ms are way better this year. Can’t blow off these series. Guess the Astros feel super confident we will make the post season this year. Dusty does always seem to turn it on in the playoffs
No- Yuli is also out right now. If he was here it would be 4 above average hitters and if Carlos was here it would be 5 as a minimum. Meyers is also probably an above average hitter and he’s gone. We are already testing depth this early in the season. I don’t think we ever trotted out a weaker lineup last year and that includes some that had Jones and Robles playing. it’s baseball. We are likely to score 10 in any one game. But that lineup is not great, Bob.
I just don’t get the people who still defend Dusty. Are there a lot of idiots who blame the manager for everything? Yes. Can an effective manager turn a bad team into a good team? No. However, Dusty is still bad at his job and that has consequences for the team.

If multiple players are sidelined, the lineup will usually suck.
With the resting of regulars I could at least see the possibility of the Astros either having performed some analysis indicating that frequent rest is critical to performance in September/Oct or that they rest players when they see something concerning in the player’s data. There is no excusing the ordering though.
