Logan Cerny hit a HR tonight. In these first 3-4 weeks, aside from SP lines and pitch/exit velocity stats, HR are probably the most meaningful stat we can draw from. Once we get a month in and guys get 50+ pa then more stats will carry meaning.
Alex Santos didn't make it out of the 2nd inning. Obviousy that's not good, but hopefully he got those first-start jitters out of the way. 1.2 IP, 4 H (solo HR allowed), 6 ER (2 inherited runners charged to him), 3 BB, 2 K
What happened to Justin Williams? I thought he was with the Woodpeckers, but he's not listed on Fayetteville's roster on their website. Did he get released?
Logan Cerny 3-5 with 4 RBI so far for Fayetteville. The home run (which led off the game) was his first as a pro.
I don’t think he was released. He is likely in extended spring training, either to work on something specific, waiting for a roster spot to open up, or he might be injured.
Thanks. I like him. Look forward to hopefully seeing him in the minors this year. I know he's not on any prospect radars or anything but he's someone I like and am rooting for.
Space Cowboys win 1-0. Combined shutout. Dubin pitched 1 inning, walked one but struck out three. Olczak credited with a hold in the 8th (1H, 2K), and James recorded the save despite walking the first two (2/3 outs were strikeouts).
Astros definitely saw something in Cerny. Of course this is still a small sample size, but he's the type of guy the Astros organization has loved - Toolsy OF with speed. Time will tell but he's having a great start to this young season.
J.P. France with a much better showing this time around after getting whacked in his first start for Sugar Land. 4 IP, 2 H, unearned run, 2 BB, 8 K
Who homered today J.J. Matijevic (2, solo) Enmanuel Valdez (1, solo) Logan Cerny (2, solo) Leosdany Molina (1, solo) Victor Mascai (1, 2-run)
Cerny’s HR looked great; quick swing and he knew it was gone. Really, really high ceiling prospect, especially considering his pedigree. Matijevic could put himself in the convo for Astros opening day 1B next season if he keeps cranking em out. I saw a video of David Hensley’s HR. He looks like he’s added some weight and his homer was to CF. His body type/athleticism and defensive versatility has always been intriguing, and he has a late bloomer profile, so even though he’s 26 he may still have some upside. I’d like to see them focus him on the corners defensively since with his size it seems unlikely he’ll play 2B/SS/CF long term.
Last year's 9th round pick, Aaron Brown had a strong start yesterday, giving up an unearned run over 5 innings with 8 Ks and no walks. He had one of the better debuts last season, posting some of the best strikeout to walk ratios in the org. He was talented enough to go to Vanderbilt out of high school, before transferring to a JUCO and then MTSU. He's 6'4" 220 with a fastball that can get into the mid 90s, I think. Not too sure on the stuff, but it looks like he's got better command than most Astros pitching prospects, and should be worth keeping an eye on.
