I agree with your premise, I just don't think school should be looked at as child care.

I do agree that it needs to be more than a 4 months heads up, but I also think it will help teacher retention, would you rather have better teachers and better coverage 4 days than overcrowded classrooms and warehousing?

I do realize this would be a huge paradigm shift and would be a huge disruption to a lot of people.

If you're going to reduce hours, take them out of the mornings. Multiple studies have shown kids need extra sleep and it's not a good thing to get them up early in the morning. Let them sleep in and start school at 10 or 10:30.

At this point we’re back to talking about ideals, schools is undeniably utilized as a form of daycare that allows parents to work.

I got plenty of ideals too, and we should definitely be working forwards and promoting our ideals, but I don’t see how changing a schools week to 4 days works for a considerable number of households without some sort of magical blanket guarantee that all work schedules will change without income changing

and to be clear, teachers should be paid well, schools should be well funded, classes should be under 20 students, and I’d be all for a 4 day work/school week. I’d be for a 6 hour work/school day too

I can't disagree with any of this.

Something is going to have to give, teachers are leaving in droves as well as other non teaching staff.

Would be interesting to hear why jasper did this.

The 5th day will be optional. So parents can still send their kids if they have jobs.

Anyways, **** my future kids. I had to suffer through 5 day school days and so will they.

Jasper is organizing a special group of volunteers to teach CRT on days off.

Hopefully this checks the box for making public education less of an extreme socialist construct. Now someone just needs to help this state actually improve the education. Not that I care about yalls kids though.

I can't believe the GOP has been attacking public education, more than any party, their base needs the most education.

Teachers don’t deserve to get paid. There job is easy. If they wanted to get paid they should get an operator job where they can only sometimes sleep while on shift.

My wife has been teaching for 27 years.

I can tell you this - all issues being raised in this thread are legit. But the #1 reason so many teachers are leaving is because of the ****ing idiot parents. Parents are actually getting dumber and dumber every year. Just ask any teacher (or anyone married to a teacher). They will tell you.

I don't think that problem is actually fixable, so I don't know that there is a solution out there.
