Play Russ as the small ball center alongside AD. Problem solved! LeBron is their PG. They just need two 3&D guys on the wing.

Once the Lakers are eliminated, this should be the first call (actually, I doubt they need to wait until they're eliminated to get framework in place).

Russ on the Lakers was an epic disaster. They shouldn't stretch him... That would be harmful. They can't waive him either -- that's just pure dead cap and does nothing for LeBron next year

They need to find a trade. Unless the Knicks or some other team wants a test, the Rockets might be the only option.

Wall for Russ and a first seems to be a no-go from their side. Sweeten it to make it more palatable for them. Russ, Nunn, an unprotected first + seconds (or a first swap) for Wall + Wood is interesting.

Hopefully lesson learned. Who know he would have such low character? It’s not his play holding down his trade value.

    Texas Two-Step

    1. Trade John Wall to LA for Russell Westbrook and 2026 1st
    2. Work on a buyout for Westbrook to remove him from the team, even if it means paying him 95% of his salary

@Clutch - what if they countered with Gordon and Wood for Westbrook, 2027 1st and 2028 swap…would you do it?

From the Rockets perspective, you’re eating both Westbrook and Walls contracts for 2022-2023, but it has no impact on your 2023 cap space.

The Lakers get to cut their cap by 10+ million.

    That’s a hell of a good plan. I would.

you gotta get both unprotected FRP if you’re taking WB and sending Wood or Eric. Rockets are their only safety net and it’s a Klutch client in Wall

I would too. You could also put a Nets pick swap on 2026 I believe. The Lakers 2026 can’t be traded since their 2025 is potentially encumbered, but they could swap.

Gordon and Wood for Westbrook, 2026 1st swap with Nets (no protection), 2027 1st (no protection), 2028 1st swap (no protection).

If the Lakers were going to do this trade it would have already been done......

Can we give the Lakers Wall, Gordon and Wood for the unprotected pick?

I don’t think so, but since we would likely buyout Wall anyway, that could be part of the “deal”, just not in a formal sense.

So Houston could deal Gordon and Wood plus filler for Westbrook and picks/pick swaps, then buyout/cut Wall and he signs with the Lakers for the minimum.

I don't think Stone would do it except as a last resort at the deadline. I think he wants to trade Wood and/or Gordon for a player that they can keep for a while.

I know it's the Lakers, but not only do I want the Rockets to move on from Wood - I actually want to see Wood with elite players around him like LBJ and Davis and see if he can actually be effective as a stretch big man - just for curiosity's sake.

I mean, his defending will probably not be great but next to Davis it's probably survivable.

I think they'll have more options than Wall now that Westbrook is an expiring contract.

I'll make it even sweeter for them. Wood, Gordon and Nwaba for WB and the unprotected 1st. Bench them both, waive at deadline if no trade materializes.

I’d like to continue building the war chest. We already have a ton of guys that will be on this team for the foreseeable future, plus 4 more coming in over the next 2 years via our first round picks.

My goal for the next 2 years is to find 2 players you can build around. Green might be the first. After that, you need picks farther out to either maintain the success or trade for a 3rd star.

AD actually has to play and we know that's a huge problem every year in itself though

If Pelinka was smart and/or had balls he would just trade LeBron and AD to rebuild the team. Keep Russ and let his contract expire next summer. You not only acquire a few 1st rounders from LeBron and AD trades but you should have capspace to entice at least one premier free agent in the summer of 2023 or 2024. It's not like the Lakers have real fans who will give a **** anyways.
