Fascinating ****, thread long overdue Indiana State Police identify the 'I-65 killer' after a 30-year investigation Updated 8:33 AM ET, Wed April 6, 2022 Indiana State Police announced Tuesday, noting in a news release he had an "extensive criminal history" spanning from 1963 to 1998. (CNN)In the late 1980s and early 1990s, several women were murdered or sexually assaulted in a series of attacks at hotels along the Interstate 65 corridor in Kentucky and Indiana. First, Vicki Heath was found dead at a Super 8 Motel in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, in 1987. Margaret "Peggy" Gill and Jeanne Gilbert were killed two years later at separate Days Inn locations in Indiana. Then, in early 1990, a Jane Doe was sexually assaulted at the Days Inn in Columbus, Indiana. For decades, these attacks remained unsolved as investigators worked to piece together what information they had to identify a suspect. Now they've succeeded after more than 30 years. Harry Edward Greenwell, who died in 2013, has been identified as the killer behind the "I-65" or "Days Inn" murders, Indiana State Police announced Tuesday, noting in a news release he had an "extensive criminal history" spanning from 1963 to 1998. Kimberly Wright, the daughter of Jeanne Gilbert, speaks after the Indiana State Police announced the identity of the suspect in the "Days Inn" cold case murders during a press conference in Indianapolis, Tuesday, April 5, 2022. "Our family is extremely grateful to all of the agencies, along with agency partnerships, who have committed to keeping these unsolved cases at the forefront for more than 33 years, and who have worked tirelessly to bring these cases to resolution for all who have suffered from these crimes," said Kimberly Wright, daughter of Jeanne Gilbert. Greenwell was identified through a process called investigative genealogy. The technique involves uploading crime scene DNA to genealogy databases in an attempt to find any genetic relatives and locate the offender through their family tree, according to the release. The Indiana State Police lab -- with the help of the FBI's Gang Response Investigative Team -- was able to use investigative genealogy to match Greenwell with a close family member. "Through this match it was determined that the probability of Greenwell being the person responsible for the attacks was more than 99%," the release said. "To the family members that are here," police superintendent Douglas Carter said during a news conference Tuesday. "I hope that today might bring a little bit of solace to you, to know that the animal who did this is no longer on this Earth."
Can't wait for the murder channel (ID) to do something on him. The number of serial killers that have not been caught in the U.S. is actually pretty ****ing scary if you think about it.
Alleged serial killer suspected of dismembering NYC woman Police found the victim's body dismembered and discarded around Brooklyn. (WCBS via CNN) By WCBS Staff Published: Mar. 13, 2022 at 11:06 PM CDT NEW YORK (WCBS) - An 83-year-old previously convicted of killing two women was arrested after a woman’s body parts were found near her New York City apartment building. Residents of a Brooklyn apartment building learned Thursday that 83-year-old tenant Harvey Marcelin, a trans woman also known as Marceline Harvey, was charged with second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse. Warning: The details of the case are graphic and disturbing. Harvey is suspected of dismembering a woman, identified as 68-year-old Susan Leyden, in her apartment. Police reportedly found Leyden’s torso bagged in a shopping cart the morning of March 3, just down the block from the apartment building. ADVERTISEMENT The criminal complaint says surveillance cameras captured Harvey walking out of the building and leaving that bag at the corner. A search warrant was executed for the suspect’s residence, where a human head was discovered, according to the complaint. Police believe Harvey befriended Leyden two years ago via social media. Leyden was reportedly last seen alive Feb. 27 walking into Harvey’s apartment. New York State records show Harvey was convicted of murder in 1963 for shooting a woman to death. She was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison and released in 1984. Two years later, Harvey was convicted of manslaughter for stabbing a woman to death and was released in 2019. Harvey is being held without bail. Despite her advanced age, police are investigating whether she could be an active serial killer.
I read recently that the number of active serial killers operating in the US has dramatically declined in recent years due to the proliferation of cameras and the use of DNA testing. Guess they're caught faster? Now we just have to worry about mass shootings and random shootouts.
Shocking deb4rockets is single. All she does all day is eat and post on the internet about Trump and race. What a catch lol
That will only get worse with millions buying guns every year and being able to carry them around. They get pissed and just shoot someone on the street or in their car out of road rage because that weapon is within arm's reach.
I would imagine that the species of prolific serial killer is entirely extinct in this day and age. Would be hard to avoid getting caught while being a Ted Bundy or a John Wayne Gacy type.
You mean when there were 2.2 million people, and before people walked around with guns capable of shooting multiple rounds? Now we have well over 320 millions guns in this country. The odds of someone losing it and shooting someone out of rage is a whole lot higher now. I don't know about you, but I remember times when school shootings, mass shootings, and people being shot and killed by road rage wasn't on the news all the time like it is now. We have 10 times more guns in Houston than the whole country did back then. We also have 10 times more dangerous people with mental issues concentrated in Houston alone than the whole country had back then. I bet we also have 10 times more people being shot and killed in this city alone than the whole country had back then.
perhaps she's been married a half dozen times and killed off the husbands after learning they were Trump voters . . . that would explain the interest in this thread
