I remember noticing Green's on ball defense earlier in the year and I just got a bunch of defensive metrics sent back to me. I noticed they were targeting Mathews down the last 2 mins of games, not Green. Made me pay attention more to Green's on ball iso defense. Glad now I have the eye test and numbers
The hate is so intense people literally are out here making up fake stats and posting them. They can’t criticize his play so now they’re making up fake stats and calling him arrogant for calling himself a bucket. Smh.
The worthy thing is crap but yeah we have a very mediocre coach and a logjam at guards. Some of the possessions are amazing and the others are just throwing the ball gift-wrapped to the opponent. Controversial way of playing all season. Green's hot shooting would have helped a contender.. Good thing is there is a chance to get Jabari.
Seriously I am kinda puzzled about this. I get why they don’t overreact to some of those historic handpicked combinations of stats - but 5 straight 30pts game by one of the most hyped rookies - after that slow start? Surely that’s a story, right? Everyone loves a redemption story and Green definitely is the most exciting rookie to watch. Still almost nothing? How about improving the pts per game after all star break by 8 and the shooting percentages across the board by 8% points as well, while averaging more assists and less turnovers?
I think people made it a redemption story but it was a mistake by Green's PR team early on to be cocky and declare him ready from Day 1 and declare him almost automatically being ROY ready from the get go. They miscalculated but now they look good in the end. He wasn't until around All Star break. We left that part out. Huge part of why there was so much controversy to begin with.
It bodes well for a later Playoff run for someone to get consistent 30-40 point scoring, at least you know that adding a Chris Paul and a future Jimmy Butler type would certainly win tons of games.
Starting to think that he really will be at least better than Booker. Imagine how good he'll look with actual plays for him or a facilitator hitting him at his spots. If we can land a top 4 pick it's gonna be an amazing duo with any of the top 4. Future is bright
How was Green to know Silas and the Rockets were trying to prioritize KPJ's development. Green's whole rookie campaign was derailed by not making Green the #1 priority. If Green talked that **** and was able to back it up with all the touches of a franchise player, I truly believe he would have shined much MUCH earlier. Never forget how hyped we all were in summer league when Jalen was balling out. I know it was a long time ago, but Jalen looked exactly like he is looking now - same with Sengun, Gup and Garuba. The media was THIRSTY for Jalen and the rivalry with Cade. They said Green was already a star during summer league before they turned on him. Sadly I think the narrative has set in: they will say that all his accomplishments are bunk at the end of the season. Now no one is paying attention because everyone is trying to make sure the narrative of "bust" will stick. feels like another Harden situation where the fan base will have to defend this dude forever.
