No. The Nets have 1 pick, via Philly (Harden trade). Their own pick is owed to Houston, and so we have 2 picks!!

tough spot to be in. I don't think we're in position to pass on talent right now. if ivey proves to be a tier above the remaining players then I would take him and go with the ivey/jalen back court. I don't think ivey is a natural PG, and he's a worse on ball defender than you'd expect given his physical gifts. but I think he could learn to be an initiator, and definitely has all the tools to be a great POA defender. makes things a bit crowded with KPJ and Christopher... lots of 3 guard lineups... but I'd rather roll the dice on ivey's upside. the fast break would be crazy. most athletic backcourt ever!

Honestly, its not written in stone that ivey proves to be clear cut above the 5th best guy. there's a lot to be figured out before the draft. workouts, interviews, the combine. barnes was a projected top 10 pick for most of the year until a late surge right before the draft. I'd love to see Sharpe, griffin, etc, prove to be on the same tier as ivey as we get closer.

yeah I don't see anything wrong with that either. I wouldn't trade anyone on a rookie deal right now. maybe if they get to their final year and we don't want to extend them for some reason then you look to trade a rookie deal. so in that sense those guys are "untouchable." but not wanting to trade someone is different than building around them, and considering them when deciding who else to add to the roster, at least in my mind.

for example if we end up with the 5th pick, and we have the opportunity to trade up into the top 3 for banchero, chet, or jabari, and the team trading down wants our pick, the BRK pick, and nix, or KPJ, or KJM, I'm not letting those guys hold up that deal.

garuba is in the mix too. Fernando should be given a camp invite.

yes to duren, Williams, or Kessler with the BRK pick if we don't get chet with our own pick.

we don't need another theiss signing but I was just mentioning we have different avenues to fill specific needs, the MLE being one of them.

I didn't want to start another thread I probably missed the discussion somewhere.

If we miss out on a top 3 pick how would anyone feel about trading it away? Im feel uncomfortable with a long rebuild 2024 starts our draft debit to OKC. I don't want it to be painful.

Gobert? His contract might be too nasty for our liking.

Donavon Mitchell? Tbh dont think we have made a trade with the Jazz in decades and I'd probably like to keep it that way.

Zion? Turner? Ayton, will Phoenix not want to pay him?

Obviously there would be various packages for talents around the league.

I cant think of any players we could acquire with #5 via trade that makes it worth it.

I'm good with just having these guys ranked 1-5 and knowingbI am gonna get 1 of them.

    Chet
    Smith
    Banchero
    Ivey
    Murray

I know people like Ivey but we have invested a couple years into KPJ development that Ivey would then also need. Porter is also better defensively.

It's not a quick transition I feel like we spent 3-4 years converting Harden.

I'm just not big on Murray I from watching B1G Liddell will transition better than Murray. Liddell had to do a lot more and was faced if an ever change lineup due to injuries at OSU. Only Houston and I think Iowa St had more volatility in the top 25.

Lidell is an underrated draft prospect.

I may be okay trading that nets pick for future draft capital given how shallow the talent is in this draft. If we have to overpay to get back into the top ten I don’t see it as worth it unless a special talent like Sharpe or Duren is available. A lot of the other mid-late lotto picks would be mid to late 1st rounders in a normal draft.

I’d have to consider Mathurin, Griffin, Duren and Sharpe at 5 as well, I think it’s wide open at that spot

Wasn't quite sure where to put this, but figured a few might want to catch a glimpse at some 2023 prospects.

    Rockets Top-5 Big Board/Fits:

    1. Chet Holmgren
    2. Jabari Smith Jr.
    3. Paolo Banchero
    4. AJ Griffin
    5. Jaden Ivey

    My Top-10 Overall:

    1. Paolo Banchero
    2. Chet Holmgren
    3. Jabari Smith Jr.
    4. Jaden Ivey
    5. Bennedict Mathurin
    6. Shaedon Sharpe
    7. AJ Griffin
    8. Dyson Daniels
    9. Tari Eason
    10. Keegan Murray

I don't think Chet/Jabari can become the legit 1b to Jalen Green like Paolo could, but I think they fit better overall -- when you consider defensive versatility and Sengun at C. Obviously you pick BPA at the top of the Draft, but I think the top-3 are so close that this might be a case where fit plays some role....and I just don't see Paolo and Sengun being an ideal fit together. They both operate better on the ball than off, they like playing in the mid-post (Banchero can play outside more, Sengun more on the low-block) which isn't ideal, and the biggest concern is them on the other side of the ball.

I think Jabari helps our defensive versatility, and maybe tops out as a low-20s scorer (while helping spacing a ton), while Chet would help the most on D, but I don't see him surpassing 16-18 ppg long-term.

Now this guy knows how to draft. Rockets at #1 and #16(27:56 mark).

If the idea is to showcase Jalen and Scoot then this would be the way. You only have two playmakers in the lineup with Scoot and Sengun. Nix and Josh could help with that albeit in a support role. At some point the team will need killers to go get buckets. Jalen and Kevin have shown that ability plus have a clutch gene so it could work.

With the way our rooks are playing I will bet they will all take steps forward next season. I'm also including Nix, Queen and even, yes, Anthony Lamb. They will all be vets next season.
Holmgren and Liddell would balance out the starting lineup by adding a little bit of defense.

Did you say same about Mobley and Green?

    Both toothpicks too.

Chet is most elite defender in this draft and #2 is not even close.

Is Chet overall the most elite defender in the draft? Or just the best help defender, while also being capable of defending perimeter players?

I think there are better post defenders against big men - and I think there are better taller defenders of perimeter players (like Jabari). But nevertheless, Chet is a great defender, especially if he can put on some muscle.

As for Jabari, do people see him as a 4 or a 3? He is tall enough to be a 4, but to me he looks like a natural 3, both offensively and defensively. I know the NBA is more positionless these days, but I could really see a lineup of him next to Sengun and Wood (or Duran, Kessler, Williams) work.
