Depending on where the rockets pick perhaps the Knicks pick or Portland pick along with Bucks pick next year could move you up two spots or something to get the real player you are targeting. The team may value Jabari way more than the other players etc. That’s a steep price to pay to move up a few spots. Two 1st’s and Wood. It could be the difference between being a top 5 borderline team with a chance every year and falling short versus winning two championships. The margin for error is thin when it comes to who your top 2-3 players on a team are.
That's an interesting thought. If Indiana's pick fall from its current status of 5th to, say, 8th...I'd be interested in giving up the Knick/Portland pick (say 10th) and Milwaukee's 2023 1st to move up to 8th. If we get one of the bigs with a top 3 pick we can take a pretty good wing with the 8th pick. Some on here might think that would hurt our 2023 1st but I don't think the losses will stop when you're now inserting two rookies into the rotation on top of the 3-4 2nd year players you have to play as well. On the other side of the fence, I don't think Indiana would mind moving down a couple of spots if they get to acquire a future 1st.
Can’t we just sign Mitchell Robinson outright? He’s unrestricted and on a very short list for me of young ascending players worth paying on the open market. He could fill huge needs for us (defense, rim protection, size, rebounding).
The only problem with this is we don't need any more tiny guards. So unless Bledsoe just sits alongside Wall, I don't see how that helps us.
I don't think we have the necessary capspace to sign him outright, this is assuming he is going to command more than the MLE (non-taxpayer or taxpayer). I would S&T for him using Wood and bring him in at $14-15 million a season.
as much as you might hate it i wouldn't be surprised if we extended Wood on an affordable contract. the priority should be moving Eric Gordon this off-season.
It wouldn't be the worst plan if Houston ends up picking 4th or 5th but if we get one of the three top bigs I don't see any real reason to bring Wood back. Because if you land Holmgren, Smith or Banchero would you want Wood to take away PT from them or, more correctly, give Silas a vet that he'd want to play in front of your rookie big?
that's the thing though. we do have a lot of minutes available in front court and any of those players can play with Wood. Our defense would suck ass if it's Banchero/Smith but offense would be electric. Also wouldn't rule out Ivey being the pick. Especially if we land #4.
96 minutes between the center and power forward position every night, I want to see it being divided up between Sengun, ideally one of Banchero/Holmgren/Smith, KMJ, Garuba, and Bruno. If Silas intends to give our new rookie big the same amount of PT as he did with Green then that's about 30 minutes right there. I expect Sengun to get the same amount of time so that's 60 minutes between those two guys. 36 minutes can be divvy up to the rest of the roster. I guess it just depends on where you're at in regards to Wood's place on this roster for the long haul. I personally don't see him being a player/piece we need to keep when we have another young players that need playing time to help them get to their potential.
this post gives me palpitations class action lawsuit if Wood is still on this team to start next season
Considering Wood is a 26 yo 20/10 big who hits 3s at 38% he should be the cornerstone in a trade for disgruntled star. Instead because he is a knucklehead who can’t set picks, can’t play defense, and is a black hole we’d be lucky to use him to move up a few spots in the draft.
It is really hard to put a value on CW. If you just go by skill his value would be pretty high - and he is still young and has a great height. The problem with him is his effort on defense and his me first type of play on offense. Both are things that may be permanent or may be fixable with the right coach and/or the right teammates. I don’t think we will get a good trade for him - and that’s why I would probably start the next season with him - and with a new coach. Trade him at the deadline if it doesn’t work out or extend him, if it does.
Yes on package him to move up this year . I don’t want to move him for anyone who was a rookie this year .. we already have 4 guys from the class right now . It will be very hard to keep more than 2-3 good players that all are up for contracts in the same year . charlotte ? how much value can we get from them ? If we combine wood and Gordon we could Take back Hayward... who I don’t really want , but what is that worth to Charlotte . I like Cody Martin and pj Washington too . But not that much . Main thing would be picks . is taking back hayward a non-starter ? If so , why ? Is stone that confident in free agency 23 ? if we can get 2-3 firsts I think that’s a move Charlotte would consider . Of course we can offer wood straight up for Plumlee and filler ... the issue is we are already near a full roster . We’d have to make a 3-way . wood is so frustrating. In theory a 26 big who shoots well and can sometimes show good D who is on a 12 million dollar deal is exactly what we want ... on the other hand he makes my eyes bleed and I’m sick of his attitude and lack of progress . as far as guys over 6’9” we have him , sengun , and Bruno ... ? I mean there’s not much of a block for him here . We suck ! So we need to trade him (or balance the roster through other moves ) for another tall dude . I love Tate , but not at the 4 long term . Maybe we get better deals at the deadline for wood , especially if he starts the year hot ... but I feel like his presence on the team is slowing our growth . Try to get a premium asset for wood . If we push the 1st far enough in the future , maybe the gamble is worth it for wood’s upside . If we package Him with Gordon we can hopefully make a bigger splash
in a similar vein to my earlier proposed Charlotte trade , what about SAC for a gordon and wood package . Heres the kicker , we will take deaaron fox off their hands .. but in return i want some serious draft assets. that gives sac mitchell gordon barnes wood sabonis fox has a horrible contract . 4 more years .. i think from 30-37 million. A quick PG that cant shoot . We'd have to use assets to get rid of him. But the whole point is that the trade does do that . Plus you can trade that contract for a disgruntled star over the next 3-4 years . How much would sac have to give up ? Prolly not as much as BKN gave for harden ... but 2 unprotected and 2 swaps ? I do not think cap space is that valuable . We arent attracting a big name FA next summer . There might not even be one . We are prolly trying to really compete in 3-4 years with green as a 4th - 5th year guy and our pick from this draft in 3rd or 4th. That would be the prefect time to have fox as a contract to trade .. having extra assets to do so. What if you could get sac's 1st this year ? food for thought
