Curious, is there data showing immigrants have higher than normal Covid rates? If yes, then reasonable restrictions should continue. If no, then I am ok with ending 42, with other ways to slow illegal immigration.
I don't think it is a good idea. From what I have read it could triple the already flood of entrants. Instead of patrolling the border, the authorities will spend much more time doing paperwork.
I favor increased border patrol, supplemented by technology like drone patrol, coupled with increased enforcement of labor laws, coupled with increased coordination with countries that have high emigration into the U.S.
Curious, wasn't it originally intended to curb COVD-19 flow into the country? neither of the fears you listed mentioned COVID-19. Seems we should be attacking illegal immigration and drug entry into the country more directly... not through something intended to curb COVID-19.

There have been several comprehensive immigration bills in the last decade under both Obama and Trump that Republicans in Congress killed. Pelosi and Shumer in 2018 made an offer to Trump that he appeared willing to accept that would've funded the wall for comprehensive immigration reform. The Republican majority in Congress then didn't take it up. As such Trump instead shifted funding for housing and social services for US military families to pay for wall construction.

I just hope we are prepared for the surge. The sheer numbers were lower during previous administrations so maybe a shift in policy is warranted.
That made me sick to my stomach when he did that. Trump showing his true colors when it came to supporting the troops. One of many reasons so many Veterans changed parties and voted for Biden. After the Capitol insurrection I hope even more true Patriots switch to Blue.
When either party is eager to work on responsible and effective immigration reform, that will be a huge and much needed breakthrough moment for this country and the world.
