You simply don't understand the topic, @AroundTheWorld. I think DeSantis does, but he thinks supporting this hurtful legislation helps him politically. Both of my kids went to Austin's magnet high school, rated one of the top 50 high schools in the country, last time I checked. It has extremely bright kids going there from all over the city, first class teachers, and a progressive curriculum. My two children, graduates of good universities, grown now and making a good living in their respective fields, had friends in the LGBTQ+ community, a couple of them transgender. They often came over to hangout, play video games and the like. Great kids, very intelligent, like my own. It's the pity of the world that they have to put up with discrimination and bigotry, but they do, sometimes from their own parents. There's no need for you to feel threatened by them. They just want to live, like the rest of us.
This is all ridiculous. People can self-identify as whatever they want, wear whatever they want, call themselves whatever they want, but don't expect everyone else to cater to your sensitivities. I might be sad because I was born with a crooked leg. Does that now give me the right to demand that everyone else call me "Emperor" and "Your Highness"? Nah. GTFO with that BS.
Who said I feel threatened by them? Of course they should live, and be respected. But that still doesn't mean they should demand from everyone else to be addressed with one of 78 pronouns.
I don’t care about the pronouns thing. I don’t use it, don’t have my pronouns in my email signature or linkedin… but it also doesn’t bother if someone has them. It’s harmless.
Again, that's fine you think that but YOU can't expect everyone else to accept your insults or be cool with them. What if I made fun of your crooked leg and then you told me to stop and I kept doing it?
People need to just quit worrying what pronouns others use. I'm old school, and am not on the new pronoun kick, but it doesn't hurt me in any way what words or pronouns others use if they aren't hateful towards others. People need to chill on this pronoun outrage. I'm more outraged that the leader of the coup to overturn the vote hasn't been arrested yet. Now that is some serious stuff. Some con trying to oust the elected President is what everyone should be outraged about, not some pronouns.
I had a coworker who I couldn’t tell if it was a guy transitioning to a girl or the other way. One day I just asked. They weren’t offended, and they told me how to property address them. My life didn’t change 1 bit.
Happened a few times in my childhood. Need to learn to shrug it off. The reality is, if life dealt you a certain hand, it's mostly on you to play the hand you are dealt. Discrimination is bad, but pronouns and gendering are not a solution to discrimination.
Right, it's basic respect you give someone. If you don't know, you ask, and they tell you. Usually people do not like being misgendered, why would trans people be any different? If you went on misgendering that person you cant then expect to be friendly with that person, why would they like you? You couldn't do something as simple as using a pronoun for them.
Were you then friends with that person? It is a solution, words have power, or do you also think words like the n-word should be fine to say to black people? It really is pretty simple, if a trans person says "Hey, I'm actually a she." and you ignored that then good for you...but don't expect that person to be happy that you couldn't do something as simple as referring to them as a ''she".
It’s not illegal to call someone by the wrong pronoun, it’s just a dick move. Just like it isn’t illegal to call someone ugly.
In Germany, many universities have started deducting points in exams when people don't do the "gendering" correctly, which is super annoying, because German words are already long as is. Apparently, some professors demand that the female form be used at all times, but with a "*" in between to include trans people and other "diverse" people. So, instead of "Student", now you have to write (and say) "Student*Innen" or you will get worse grades. Having to do that for a ton of words is like a violation of the language and really difficult. It's just a really dumb fad. But it's certainly being forced on people, also on the public broadcasting stations. No regular person talks like that or wants to talk like that.
Eh. Im young, work in tech and have quite a few coworkers that have transitioned. I haven’t noticed anyone forcing any of this on me. Sometimes I just see pronouns on LinkedIn/emails. Completely harmless. I did have a coworker post her 10 year transition anniversary. I gave it a like.
My pronouns are (thee, thou). I don't mind other people telling me pronouns that make them comfortable. I don't care if they don't. I do mind government dictating that people can't make their own choice. DeSantis is crazy big government overreach. He's done it with this bill, with the Disney stuff, with preventing businesses from setting their own safety requirements, etc. DeSantis is crazy big government. I'm a liberal, but I don't believe in big government restricting free speech, legislating personal choice about things that don't harm anyone such as pronoun choice.
How did this turn into a pronouns argument? Jeez. Anyhow, I'm glad to see small gov Republicans doing what's they preach.
It started when shady posted tiktoks about pronouns and @AroundTheWorld kept referencing the post as if everyone should be scared of pronouns. Apparently, addressing people choosing pronouns and accepting that is now called indoctrination.
https://babylonbee.com/news/teacher...utraged-by-ban-on-teaching-your-kid-about-sex ORLANDO, FL—On July 1st, teachers throughout Florida will no longer be permitted to encourage discussions about sex with children in grades kindergarten through grade 3. Florida teachers have been adamant that they've never encouraged such discussions in their classrooms but they are weirdly outraged that they will no longer be able to. "I have never once told a boy they are really a girl, or a girl they are really nothing, or a man that they should be comfortable loving children. Not once. BUT IT'S OUTRAGEOUS THAT I CAN'T," said Ms. Feilershiek, a kindergarten teacher at Chickasaw Elementary, while picketing in front of her school instead of teaching children. One third-grade teacher, Mx. Pat Frumouge (ze/zir), had begun teaching zeir students about LGBTQ culture full-time ahead of the July 1st deadline. "Look, I don't groom any kids. But I have to constantly explain why I look like a porcelain fish-being," ze said, visibly shaken. "This law is going to erase me as an individual. My sexual identity and favorite kinks are my entire identity... if I can't share that with children—which I don't—then I don't know what I'm going to do. Teach math?" Children at Chickasaw Elementary School are reportedly failing at math and science but excelling at peer-pressuring other children to switch genders at will. Teachers insist the kids are doing that on their own, however. According to sources, teachers are preparing for the next year by abandoning all subjects entirely in favor of full-time LGBTQ lectures to make up for the fact they won't be able to indoctrinate children next year—even though they don't do that.
