I learned my lesson. I said Cade = Shane and was wrong. The ability to manipulate the game with the ball is the most overlooked skill. Skills > Athleticism.
LOL comparing Banchero to Battier. Jesus. I have Banchero 4th on my ranking but I also think he is going to be an all-star at the NBA level. He needs to be a point forward who can mix it up inside from time to time because of his physical attributes and footwork. I'd be stoked to add Banchero if we were to fall to 3 or 4 and he is there. Sengun PF needed that can cover for both Banchero and Sengun in spots Banchero as big small forward Green KPJ PG becomes less important when your offense is flowing through Banchero, Sengun and then our guards. KPJ and Green both solidly above average at catch and shoot 3.
Banchero will bring you what C Banchero is a bigger and stronger John Collins for the Hawks, but do the same things. Banchero is better scoring inside-
Banchero looks like a less athletic Blake Griffin to me. Good face up game, can spread the floor a little bit. Has a little passing creativity. Looks like he will shy away from banging around in the post.
I think they'd be a terrible pair .... nether one of them can shoot and they'd kill spacing. As it is now teams just sag off of Sengun and let him shoot 3's because he's shot 26% for the season. Banchero shoots 33% from the college 3 point line .... Teams will sag off of him just the same and clog the paint. No lanes to drive , no dunks for Jalen.
Yeah, he looks slow to me. It's like he has another gear but doesn't like to use it. Why I have him 4th and not lower, because slow and steady wins the race saying. Where Chet, Jabari and Ivey are the Hare....Banchero is the Tortoise. I will be interested to see how his combine numbers are? Shuttle, cones? Right now I have him as a cross between Sengun and Battier.....not as good a shooter as Battier and not as good as Sengun in the post. But, yes Battier broke one or two ankles. Not many, as the were shocked caught off guard by Batts putting the ball all the ground. Much quicker than Banchero. Battier was a two time All American at Duke and McDonald's All American in 1997 as well. Highly under rated in college. Academic All American in 2001. Scored 20 pts a game at Duke in 00/01 and they were not all steals and 3-pointers. 6 x 2-point shots a game were a drive or two. @Ekiu thank you, I know the height and weight. I didn't explain it well, I using Battier as an example of plain Vanilla. Luka Garza and Timme are also good at bully ball in college but can't get on the floor because of slow feet in the NBA. Sengun is also 19 and 235 pounds...could Sengun beat Banchero in a foot race? More to basketball than just offense. Luka Garza is a prime example of that, college player of the year the previous season scoring 24 points per game at 44% from 3 on 3.2 attempts per game. Luke Garza was 6'11" and 265 pounds. Guessing Banchero is faster than Luka was.
For one, he and Kd are nothing alike. Second, he is a good athlete. Nothing elite about his athleticism. Rashard Lewis with defense
The Rockets are not close to being a finished product, I often think about talent over fit. Who knows what this team will look like in 2 years but like Verbal Christ mentioned shot creation is incredibly valuable. Building a team with multiple shot creators is a recipe for success. Banchero is the only one at the top who can do it. I don't rank Ivey in the top 3 but he is nowhere near the creator Banchero is, he is a similar shooter and he is bad on defense. I still don't get Ivey. Funny thing is look at this forum and the comparisons everything from Webber, Melo, Blake, Tatum, Randle, Battier... None of them exactly fit dude is unique.
Here are Paolo's last 11 games aka the most important and toughest stretch of the year: PTS / REB / AST / BLK / STL / FG% / TO 20 / 10 / 2 / 2 / 0 / 47% / 1 16 / 7 / 3 / 1 / 1 / 36% / 1 22 / 4 / 4 / 0 / 3 / 58% / 1 19 / 7 / 4 / 1 / 0 / 57% / 5 17 / 10 / 4 / 2 / 1 / 50% / 2 20 / 5 / 1 / 1 / 0 / 57% / 2 18 / 11 / 4 / 1 / 1 / 80% / 0 10 / 10 / 7 / 1 / 5 / 33% / 4 23 / 5 / 5 / 0 / 0 / 42% / 4 21 / 1 / 3 / 0 / 0 / 70% / 3 21 / 1 / 9 / 1 / 0 / 43% / 1 I think his game will be better suited for the NBA (a natural iso-heavy league). He does need to work on defense / turnovers. But dude routinely averages 4 AST a game from the 4 spot which is special IMO. This dude is consistency personified.
Jabari is the best shooting forward prospect since Durant. His game isn’t like Durant’s, but I can’t think of another player with that natural of a stroke since him.
Smith will provide integral spacing and shot making if we take him. As well his defense and length on the perimeter should be above average. However, you have to find a big that works with Sengun and Smith in the starting lineup.
If he didn’t have that question mark, he’d be the consensus #1. It could be scheme. Unfortunately, I don’t think we get paint stats in college basketball, so we can’t tell how much his low 2% is him overloading in the midrange. He’s got good athleticism, so I tend to think it’s a combination of scheme, him taking a lot of midrange shots and his current limitations as a ball handler. My guess is he’d be fine as a PnR finisher.
Going to repost these heat-maps for reference. Shout out to @Ekiu. From the pictures above, it looks like Jabari just has problems finishing inside in general. Biggest strength Chet has that nobody talks about is his pillow-soft touch around the rim. For fairness, his biggest weakness that doesn't get brought up is the amount of OREB he allows.
Do we need a big that can play inside? Sengun is great at posting up - Green and KPJ are great at driving to the basket. I would like a player that provides spacing with a great 3pt shot and that can drive inside, when the defense collapses. And a plus defender. As far as all the comparisons for Banchero. To me he looks like an old school PF - almost like a Karl Malone light. A powerful guy with a great midrange shot, that can take it to the basket or battle in the post. I don‘t think he will ever be as good as Malone, but that‘s what his highlights remind me of.
Lauri Markkanen... 2017 draft Who finally found his home this year at the 3. Also shot 42% from 3 and was labeled as the best shooter in that draft however he was more versatile on offense than Jabari, while Jabari is loads better defensively. Both 1 and done.
Good stuff Tuck. Yeah I definitely don’t like seeing that under the basket. It REALLY bothers me with guards. A guy with the kind of athleticism and length that Jabari has should be able to find a way to finish at the basket, even if it’s just backcuts and in the PnR. It will be interesting to see how each front office evaluates those 3.
