Last night I was at a bar had Karaoke. I ended up in a conversation about songs that shouldn't be sung at Karaoke and that moved to songs that my band will not play even though people request them.

    Here's a brief list:
    Margaritaville
    Danny Boy
    Wonderwall
    That Kid Rock Summertime song
My Heart will Go On (Titanic Theme)
    Anything Nickelback
    Anything Creed
    Anything Coldplay

For the Clutchfans musicians what are your no go songs?

my old band played a wedding once and we were asked to learn b. spears "toxic". thats a song i never imagined that i would play, but they payed us so we learned it. i sang and played guitar...it was actually fun and we came up with a cool arrangement (8 piece band w/ horn section). but i would never want anyone to have seen us doing it at a regular gig.

Are there songs on the opposite end of the spectrum that you respect so much that you feel it is best to leave them alone rather than do a cover?

That's a good question. As a band we have a particular sound and range so there is a lot of music we don't do because we don't have the instrumentation and to be very honest talent to do. We don't do traditional Celtic reels because one we don't have the instrumentation to pull them off well. I've been working some on adapting them to our instrumentation, playing the melody lines that would be played by bagpipe or violin on electric guitar, and the results haven't been that good.

I have played Stairway to Heaven on stage with my current band but mostly to annoy the drummer.

Does anything by Elvis fall in any category or you never get requests for his songs?

So you're saying it's cool if I stand in the back and yell "FREEEEBIRD!!!"?

ETA: dammit, didn't pay attention to Otto's video

You won't play Creed or Nickleback, so I'm assuming Ace of Base and Limp Bizkit are on the setlist?

So you won't play Creed and you won't play Nickelback? Will you play "Nookie" at the next wedding you play?

My band will not play " We threw gasoline on the fire, and now we have stumps for arms and no eyebrows". It's a good song suggestion for charades though.

I don't think we've ever gotten a request for Elvis Presley. We have played Elvis Costello though.

Long time ago but back in 1990 we were in Cancun on our way back from a booze cruise and everyone was tuckered out. I said **** that noise and started singing Hotel California. We got damn near the whole boat to sing it acapella. Ended up making out with a girl several years older than me due to that.

    Good times...
