Was in attendance last night, Garuba needs to slim some. He’s not as quick looking as he was during the Olympics(pretty sure someone else mentioned this and I 100% agree) but I think he’s a 3 point shot from being a 6’9 PJ Tucker cause his effort and energy is there, if he slims and regains some quickness I can see him guarding multiple positions
This is a very fair take. He’s probably about where he should be. Too early to know if he’s a bust or not, but for the 21st pick he’s at least showing a little something. I still think he’s ultimately a trade filler, but it’s impossible to know yet.
I’ve seen Draymond Green and he’s no Draymond Green. He is what’s called a “project”. If he works his tail off in the offseason to develop some offense then there is hope for this guy. He definitely has the defensive tools, just needs to develop the offensive game which is not there at this point. It will take a lot of time and commitment, but he has the right mentality to do it.
Jalen Green was in the 95 or higher percentile of NBA athletes in speed/acceleration/leaping the second he stepped on the court. He showed out with big sunmer league numbers, scored 30+ points in his 3rd NBA game - even when he slumped in December & January the tools were there and had been demonstrated at an NBA level - which is why all the idiots writing him off were gonna get clowned eventually. None of these things is true for Garuba, you have to hang your hat "well he played for Real Madrid who win several UEFA champions leagues". There is the reason most late first rounders are drafted where they are. But yeah, sure rookie Draymond Green. Have you ever even watched Draymond play? You're saying Garuba projects to a high post playmaking point center and 5 position elite DPOY guarder? Cause there's literally nothing so far that's shown that he can, or that he's going to grow into a 7-3 paint guardian like Gobert. Just shut up and join Team Bruno. He deserves your praise
It’s about development, and we are actively tanking. Give him perimeter opportunities and more perimeter defensive assignments. The video game move is to play him at C, imo. Clearly the best way to win games, which isn’t the mission statement right now.
This is a silly standard, there was nothing in Draymond Green's first 20 games to show it either. Do I really have to do this? I know you sense where the stats are. Draymond did not average more than 2 assists till his 3rd season. He shot 32 and 40% FROM THE FIELD his first two seasons. Imagine you looking at Draymond's start and saying he's going to be a 5-position elite defender and a high post elite passer. It only feels weird because you made up in your imagination how he should look now if he's going to be all those things in the future. Gobert was a 0-offense player for 3 seasons and couldn't hit FT's more than 62%. Garuba is elite at strength, lateral quickness and bball IQ. It will be more than enough. The first time Garuba started for us (his first extended minutes against NBA rotation players) he was the second highest plus minus on the team despite scoring 0 points. I knew he's a no offense guy so that doesn't surprise me especially considering he's out of shape. That he can be the second highest impact with 0 offense is better defense than even I expected though. For that one game, I don't know how anyone's opinion of him could have gotten worse lol. Other than that, all I know is he's outplayed all his competition everywhere in life, and before he did that he looked like this. I know you want to make that about league comparisons, but I'm talking about DNA. I know what DNA does, it gets stronger in a tougher pool. It's the same DNA that is in high school players that made it in the NBA. So I'm good with my prediction. And yes, I do see him becoming a 5 position elite DPOY type if that's what Draymond is. Whether he'll be as good a playmaker as Draymond I don't know, I see him closer to Siakam in that sense. Sorry Bruno.
lol I'm strictly discussing on court impact. I have watched every minute of the player I'm projecting. I'm good dude, you're not going to convince me that because I didn't watch every minute of Draymond's rookie season that I can't look at his metrics and compare them to Garuba's. Summary: both of them completely insignificand to their teams and NBA, and Draymond did NOT show he will be an elite passer or 5-position DPOY. I don't even believe you believe this is important, you've spent two posts dumping on the Spanish league you never watch. You're just being diversionary and it's irrelevant to the discussion. I have nothing more to add to my argument, whether you're convinced or not thanks for the talk.
Don't need to convince toxic anti Bruno troll @Mathloom and his malick badiane= Hakeem level clown show. You're right most young players have inauspicious early career arcs - you're delete your account level wrong to think that they end up in HOF, greatest DPOY ever level arcs like Draymond rather than drowning in the Bayes of mediocrity. Stop posting!
I believe Garuba's role is and was expected to be Capela with a possibility of hitting some 3's. Capela does not shoot 3's. *Screen *Roll to the basket *Anticipate lob dunks *Defend the interior *Contest out on the perimeter *Run the floor hard for rim runs *Block shots and get rebound, steals, deflections Nothing fancy, for which he is still on pace for. Anyone who was expecting more than that, WHY? That role still exists....not extinct yet. Mark Williams from Duke is much the same and he may go around # 8.
Aren’t we a wee premature in projecting a future from a fractured beginning. On a new team. In a new league. In a new country. At a wee lad’s age? Much like Dray, and countless countless others, the player will determine his value with his heart, his head, his work ethic.
All I remember about rookie Draymond was that were on the Pat Bev & Parsons train when the Rockets broke the team 3 pt record. I think Parsons said about Draymond "he is an irrelevant end of bench player"... There isn't much to compare, limited court time.
At this point, I see Garuba as a defensive backup to Sengun when Sengun has trouble defending someone. Good enough for me, and anything else is upside. Also, would keep Fernando around at a cheap contract.
Theres countless x10 others who didn't work out. Not entirely because of lack of heart or work ethic either. I hate to break this to people but late first round picks mostly don't turn out to be stars or even NBA starter level players. That's why selling on Green in November vs. selling on Garuba are not really the same things.
Garuba looked much heavier than I remember from SL or international play. And not thiccer in a good way. That being said, I still think he needs 40 games with 20 min per for us to see what we have.
let’s toss the guy today. What’s he shown? And he was barely drafted. Just inside the top 22. He might work out, perhaps he won’t. I can’t forecast on his body of work in mere minutes after injuries. Maybe this time next year. Or even later than that.
I was really excited when we managed to get Garuba in the draft. He's long, with a ridiculous wingspan, very quick, excellent lateral movement, has hops, he's smart. Basically, Garuba can guard any position. He's taken a long time to adjust to the NBA, then the injury when he was really coming around. Now that the season is almost over, we're getting a glimpse of what he can be, in my opinion.
