I agree that Disney shouldn't get carve outs to self govern. It's a mark of our times that DeSantis is taking this on over a cultural issue rather than a question of whether corporations should be able to exempt themselves from local laws.

As I mentioned in the other thread Disney isn't taking this stand because they are "woke". They are doing this because they are concerned about their bottomline. This is just another sign though of how the far the small government pro-business party is now the big government party opposing businesses.

I told the d&d about the culture war
    It’s real now.
This is a strange bill because 1. It’s doesn’t really have something that says ‘don’t say gay’
    2. It was just designed for political reasons aka a trap for the wokesters to get outraged.

    in my opinion
This bill is trying to make sure peoples kids don’t turn into Willow or Jayden Smith

As I said in the other thread if people don't like what Disney is doing, don't watch Disney media, don't buy Disney merchandise and don't go to Disney theme parks.

People seem to forget that we can vote with our dollars rather than call for government intervention.

Disney is one of the biggest and most influential corporations in the world:

Since the 1980s, Disney has created and acquired corporate divisions in order to market more mature content than is typically associated with its flagship family-oriented brands. The company is known for its film studio division, Walt Disney Studios, which includes Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios, 20th Century Animation, and Searchlight Pictures. Disney's other main business units include divisions in television, broadcasting, streaming media, theme park resorts, consumer products, publishing, and international operations. Through these various segments, Disney owns and operates the ABC broadcast network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic; publishing, merchandising, music, and theater divisions; direct-to-consumer streaming services such as Disney+, Star+, ESPN+, Hulu, and Hotstar; and Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, a group of 14 theme parks, resort hotels, and cruise lines around the world.[5][6] The cartoon character Mickey Mouse, created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, serves as the company's mascot.[7]

Yes they are but if all you do is bellyache about their "Woke Agenda" while still giving them money you're actually supporting them in the only way that matters to Disney.

To tie it back to a frequent issue. This is why private actions regarding speech and content are different than governmental actions. In a market economy you aren't forced to patronize a private business. Disney cannot force me to sign up for Disney +. That said I can't get out paying taxes to the government or not abiding by laws because by definition government has the force of law.

I highly doubt the Disney board or shareholders will be happy with Disney losing money because of this. If their stock drops and profits drop we will likely see the issue resolve itself.

I really don't take Disney seriously at all on this and fully believe they are only doing this because this is where they believe their market is going. I don't agree with the law but I don't think Disney is a good actor or doing this out of any sense of "wokeness".

Large for profit corporations are essentially amoral. The only purpose for their existence is to maximize profits and market share. That doesn't mean that executives, shareholders or others in them don't have their own agendas or motivations but the corporate entity itself doesn't. So in this case either their "LGBTQ Agenda" either makes them money or is revenue neutral in which case it will likely continue or else they lose money and then they end it.

Disney is a mixed bag for sure. They were among the very first to offer benefits to same sex partners. They are correct on this issue as well. But I agree with @rocketsjudoka. They aren't doing it because of any kind of social consciousness.

They also do amazing things in their parks regarding sustainable energy, helping the declining bee population etc. They engage in many responsible practices that many other corporations don't. They employ an army of people. They also charge super inflated prices for merch etc. They are absolutely profit driven.

He knows this, it's just typical empty words to play to his idiot base, they eat this kinda stuff up.
