I’ll say it: At this point, I think the ROTY should go to either Cade or Scottie. Fight me, Mobley Only Fans.
This was an ok write-up but if you think somehow Allen was covering up defensive flaws for Mobley, you don't know what Mobley is asked to do defensively. He is asked to be a 3 level defensive player who can check guys on the perimeter as well as be a rim protector. There are far worse defensive guys on Cleve that need to be covered for than Mobley. So Green gets an excuse playing with shoot 1st players but Mobley does not Since when is Tate a shoot 1st player? You really are reaching with that one.
Jarret Allen is the main rim protector / interior defensive anchor and is covering up/assisting Mobley's weaknesses. Mobley is a good perimeter defending and good playing weak side defense, but Allen has been an interior beast. The team's defensive has suffered without their best interior defender, which isn't very surprising. The fact that Mobley (and Barnes) were put in the best situation doesn't detract from how good they are, but is just a fact. I still think Mobley is ROY and I still think Mobley and Barnes are superior prospects based off what we know today.
This is highly inappropriate. Do you realize the actions depicted in this gif could be construed as sexual in nature?
It should be Barnes if anything. Cunningham, while playing better, is still inefficient his rookie season. Cade's TS is 50.5% while the league average for guards is 54%. Since Mobley is out, ROY should be Barnes. Only thing Cade has over Barnes is assists, but Barnes also avgs way less TOs.
Mobley is great, but the award is Scottie's. Mobley is a strong #2 in my (highly respected) ROTY rankings.
He is covering up for everyone not just Mobley which is my point. Some on here are acting like Mobley is a liability, or that somehow Allen is covering up a major weakness in his game. I don't really disagree with any of this.
Allen is the interior defender and Mobley is the perimeter/weak side defender. I wouldn't say interior defense is a major weakness of Mobley based on the time he has played without Allen, but Allen does cover up/ or plays a role that Mobley isn't able to do as well. CLE just has a team that fits together after rebuilding for about 4 years. Mobley gets most of his buckets from his above average guard play and gets to play a defensive role that suits his current abilities.
Kobe wasn’t even ‘Kobe’ his rookie year Your takes on evaluating young talent are beyond horrible. I bet you and BTG and all the other JG haters secretly wish for JG failure bc your quest to be ‘right’ supersedes all.
I don't disagree with any of this, I just don't think Mobley's success has much to with Allen "covering up" for him. So Mobley realizes he does not need to force much and can be the complimentary player that this team needs, how is that a negative?
I think a part of Mobley's success is the situation he was drafted into, like Barnes. It's not "a negative", it's just an explanation of Mobley's rookie season. I don't think Green is ROY, but his slow start can be partially attributed to the situation he was drafted into.
Tate has a pretty high offensive usage (19.8) compared to last season and his production. PJ Tucker career usage is 11.4. The Tate plays that bother me is when he tries to go 1 on 3 or 4 in transition. Those are basically just turnovers
I love Daryl but Ujiri is clearly the best GM in the league. Ability to orchestrate a blockbuster trade to bring in an All-NBA talent? Check Ability to orchestrate a blockbuster trade to bring in an All-NBA talent and win a championship? Check Ability to find diamond in the rough players that weren't selected in the lottery? Check Ability to find potential All-Star talent using lottery picks? Check Ability to rebuild a team back to being a playoff team? Check
Tate ends up with the ball in his hand in late clock situations a lot, which contributes to usage rate. And I don't see how anybody can think he is a shoot 1st player anyway. PJ Tucker was never asked to be an initiator on offense like Tate, so I don't understand why you would compare them.
