Most have already mentioned these, but they're my go-to's:

    1) Relocate (couch, spare bedroom, etc)
    2) Audio (put on something that is soothing to you and will end within 30 minutes)
    3) All else fails... drugz

I just got my first 2 hours of sleep with actual REM cycles in more than 8 days........can't wait until this weekend, when I should be mostly healthy.

Edit - saw doctors again, they said I had the beginnings of Pneumonia - so they gave my some anti-biotics and some cough syrup with Codeine in it.

Holy Crap - that stuff knocks you out....you can take it every six hours, so took it at 8pm, then went to bed at 10pm....wook up around 2 with a slight cough, took another dose....had some WHOPPERS of dreams.........and got up early with a headache (feels like a hangover) and a mild cough.....

I am walking around in a codeine haze this morning though....

I think that the cough might be just about ending, just as fast as it got here......worst 2 weeks of my llfe...thanks for listening.

I think I actually got some decent sleep for the first time in a week last night. I tried this mindfulness meditation and I read for 15 minutes in the other room and I did take a sleep aid of my wife's since I was desperate to get sleep. I can tell a big difference - when I wake up during the night, there is still some grogginess on my part and as a result, it is not that hard to fall back asleep. However, I have had some nights recently where I will wake up and it is like I am wide awake. As long as I can feel some grogginess, I think I will be okay but no more of waking and feeling like I am wide awake.

Ok, so the last 2 nights, I have taken Vicks Immunity Zzzs and I have slept well. My wife doesn't want me to keep taking them even though they are supposedly non habit forming. I guess when I go to bed tonight I could try not taking them and if I can't fall asleep, take them if I feel the need to.

I'd just read Manny posts. Not sure how anything that banal & boring wouldn't put anyone to sleep. See if you can get Alexa to read your 25,000 posts.

it depends on how you wake up. if it's through sleep paralysis and you see a scary lady's head screaming at your face, chances are i won't be sleeping for the next couple of hours. turn on all lights, turn on incognito mode, do... research.... for science.

I have sciatic nerve issues and my back pain sometimes keeps me tossin and turning at night.

smoking a joint of weed helps me go back to sleep.

    Problem solved

This is my problem: not always sciatica, not always shoulders/knees, but as a side-sleeper it's almost always some thing that makes me turn over several times a night.

I really, really need to find a better mattress.

    Gummies do help, though.

maybe you should look Into physical therapy. That’s about the only thing that makes the pain go away for a while. Idk the severity of your “damage” but that sure helped me.
    Chiropractor didn’t help
    Neither did acupuncture.

My next step is to get mri but goddam that **** expensive even with my insurance.. goddam crooks.

I've done more physical therapy than I care to admit. I've got the stretching and yoga down. And like you I've tried chiro/puncture with meh results.

It's pressure points for me (there's nothing I can do for the knees until I get replacement parts, left bad/right less bad)...the shoulders are just due to use and the mattress I sleep on. Hip is whenever the L3 disc decides to go funky.

    Any thoughts on mattresses?

It's 2:50am and finally just got out of bed cause I'm staring at the ceiling. However, I know why because I decided to take a Claritin D tonight and I'm fritz the F out. Funny I check the BBS and this thread is on the 1st page.

Alcohol will help you fall asleep but then can wake you up early. Hadn't seen this one mentioned yet.

Bringing this thread back as I have been dealing for the past 2 months with sciatica. At first, I had some pain but nothing worse than a little bit of dulling pain. Then about 2 weeks ago, I drove for about 2 hours one way, sat and played bridge for about 3 hours, and then drove back home for another 2 hours. The next day the sciatica was so bad, I could barely walk. I stupidly drove an hour the following day (one way) and sat for awhile. So, it made things worse and sleeping was now hard again.

I saw a chiropractor the following Monday and was told that my discs were thinning, hips were out of alignment and these things were causing the sciatica. I have had several chiropractic adjustments and a massage and I could feel that it was getting better. I even went to Nashville the following weekend and didn’t have any problems.

So just when I thought I had turned the corner, I must have overdid things on Friday and the sciatica has flared up with a vengeance. It probably wasn’t until 3:30 in the morning on Saturday that I fell asleep and last night wasn’t much better. For whatever reason, the sciatic nerve gets really agitated at night and I have to deal with 3 things - pain on my left leg that sometimes feels shooting, tightness in my muscles, and the worse by far, is spasms. I have found it close to impossible to get comfortable which is why I am not getting enough sleep. I wish I could sleep on my back but I have a hard time getting to sleep that way.

Using ice and heat plus trying some exercises along with 800 mg of ibuprofen- I have another adjustment tomorrow and a massage on Wednesday- no driving trips for this week. Hope to get back to where I was before this flared up again by next weekend.
