    As others have suggested, Abdul-Jabbar called Smith’s onstage attack “an implied threat to all comedians who now have to worry that an edgy or insulting joke might be met with violence. Good thing Don Rickles, Bill Burr, or Ricky Gervais weren’t there. As comedian Kathy Griffin tweeted: ‘Now we all have to worry about who wants to be the next Will Smith in comedy clubs and theaters.'”

    comedians have always had to worry that somebody will take a joke the wrong way

    this sh*t ain’t nothing new…some people won’t let u hide behind “I was just joking”…this has been a thing since the dawn of time

    getting tired of people playing things up for clout and acting like every little thing is some existential threat…let’s cut the malarkey already

    If Chris Rock was a female comedian, and Will Smith did this, no one would be applauding him for his Oscar.

    Will Smith should be banned from the Academy, plain and simple.

    we all know what Will did was messed up and inexcusable

    all this stuff like “comedians are under attack” and “war on comedy” is just ridiculous to me

    Because 1 famous person overreacted to a joke?

    everything getting played up for clicks and to create some manufactured controversy these days

    like the “war on Christmas” years ago that had me rolling my eyes

    don’t even know what being “woke” has to do with anything either

    Will Smith is woke now? It can’t be that he just overreacted and made a bad move on TV, it has to be that he’s leading some woke crusade against comedians…

    Why does everything have to be played up and exaggerated?

    Dave Chappelle was the biggest example, he's the best and greatest comedian and he got canceled for make jokes about the Trans people.
