Stephen Silas deserves some credit for sure, but keep in mind that the head coach doesn't really work that much with the rookies and younger players on developing their game. In this case it is mostly John Lucas and some Diop.
I used to be hardcore. I had league pass and would split screen four games at once. Played fantasy basketball which incentivized me to keep up with what every team was doing and which prospects were going where. I was a basketball junkie and hung out with a lot of other basketball junkies. Don't have the time or desire to do that anymore, but I still keep up with NBA news and watch plenty of Rockets games. Games are great to have on in the background when cooking or working out because they don't need your full attention at all times. There are tons of replays so you can take your focus off the game and still know what's going on.
Yeah no doubt there's people full of it and it shows with each post they make. But, I do believe there are posters on here with valuable insight from a lot of watching
Only a handful of people have seen enough of Sharpe to really have a strong opinion. However, those that saw him in HS and on the tournament teams claim that he is a good passer with strong court vision. How much does that hold? Who knows. If (when) Sharpe declares there will be a lot made of his private workouts. If he is THAT great in private workouts, if he looks like a T-Mac type player then he could go first. It is why I am furious that Stone is letting Silas win games.... we could have been guaranteed one of: Holmgren/ Ivey / Smith / Sharpe / Banchero... hell, even if the Rockets didn't want Sharpe at #5, they very well could have traded down for the player they wanted and gotten extra picks.
Thats good the Rox have better chance of getting him then. People tend to over analyze and nitpick on small ass flaws when there's nothing major to criticize about. Having no dribble game is a lot less concerning than having no 3 pt shot, being too thin or having a hunch like you're Quasimodo on the court. The dude's projected to be an athletic Rashard Lewis with defense as an 18 yr old,he got all this time to learn how to dribble of that's the only thing people are concerned about. Given how good Smith's shot is he has the work ethic required to elevate his game and add more tricks to his bag over the coming years.
Nobody has seen Sharp play against college all they have are tapes of him vs high school comp where he looks like MJ crossed with Durant. He reminds me a lot of Dion Waiters who also looked liked Dywane Wade vs high school comp. I mean he could still be legit, but there's no proof of it at all imo since we never saw him against real competition. If he goes first it can send a precedent where 5 star recruits dont even play in college or other better comp so they dont look bad.
Yeah, several of them do. The defense, the last I heard, was primarily the responsibility of Diop and Higgins but everyone helps to some degree on that side of the ball. The defense is not coached amazingly well but they also are coaching a combo of young players that are not used to it and also losers that don't care.
Griffins efficiency, with his size, athleticism and decent handle is intriguing for me, I wouldn’t mind trading back for him
The main issue is his durability. Dude missed 2 yrs in high school, missed half of college and also almost got injured again in March Madness. If he is this injured in high school and college you gotta wonder how he'll look in the NBA 5 yrs from now. I like Griffin s lot as a prospect but that injury history is too much to take him high imo. Its a shame too cuz if you saw him in high school he was crazy athletic and mobile now it looks like he lost a lot of his lateral mobility. He can still get it back when he recovers but again we dont knoe when he is gonna go down again...
A lot of people don't take into consideration that Griffin should be a high school senior this year.... he is VERY young, and he is as good as he is after missing almost two seasons. I don't think I would take him in the top 4, I just haven't seen enough consistency from him or enough ability to handle physical contact..... but he is a good value pick in the 6-9 range. He is someone, that if he slips to 8-9th, I would encourage the Rockets to try and trade assets to get with a second pick. Griffin: August 25, 2003 Holmgren: May 1, 2002 Banchero: November 12, 2002 Sharpe: May 30, 2003 Duren: November 18, 2003 Murray: August 19, 2000 People need to realize that Griffin is three whole years younger than Murray, is 18 months younger than Holmgren and a year younger than Banchero. How would people view Griffin if he were doing this as a high school senior this year? He also has amazing fundamentals and is on a team (I know this will piss some off but its the truth) that is poorly coached this year as well.
They are with Weaver, or were the last I paid attention. Honestly Weaver is the best coach on the Rockets staff. I highly doubt he is back next year though.
He looks like the next Nick Nurse/Chris Finch, upcoming talented young coach, hungry, with important head coaching experience out of the NBA. He should be considered if the franchise fires Silas (they won't).
Yeah, the reality is that some in the NBA community do not realize that this really is a global game. The rule changes have made this game far more global, as well and having coaches that have been all over the map and are smart and hungry is a big plus. Nurse is possibly the best actual coach in the league right now when it comes to knowledge and creativity and player development.
