Might be a good question for a Monday where we are still tied with Detroit and Orlando for the worst record and ahead of OKC by 1.

If they would have "tried harder" throughout the season maybe I would be eating crow right now when I dismissed the notion of this team vying for a play-in spot. Right now they're 10.5 games out. If the team would have performed better throughout the season.......who knows?

Want/need them to lose lose lose no matter what. By hook or by crook.
    Top 4 pick or bust!

All this “I’d be happy if they lost out on a top 4 pick if they only played and won with the kids”
“If they ran out Nix-Green-Christopher-Martin-Sengun and won, I’d be happy/fine with it.”

All the kids are coming back. They don’t “need” to get a look at anyone (that they haven’t already seen).

“I need to see Garuba, Nix and Fernando.” … See what? What are you going to see over 7 games?
“Oh man, Daishen Nix looked awesome! Maybe we shouldn’t draft Jaden Ivey at 4/5?” … No.

Anyways, get back to your losing ways! Y’know, like when you were losing 10-15-20 games at a time!

Attention all TANK amusement park attendees. We hope you enjoyed your time at planet TOPPICKMANIA. At this time our rides will be closing for the season. Be sure to tell your friends this was not your best trip to planet TOPPICKMANIA, it was your fifth or sixth best.

I can’t defend the decision to pay John Wall to be away from the team, but it is absolutely in the interest of the team and it’s long term success to maximize the playing time and development of our young players. We are the definition of a rebuilding team; our goal is to acquire and develop talent and improve…so that we can eventually get back to contending for a championship.

I don’t consider that tanking. We are clearly not playing to lose, as evident by the fact that we play vets like EG and Schroeder significant minutes. And honestly I don’t think that’s impacted the win-loss much (just like John Wall likely wouldn’t). So it’s really about getting minutes for player development and that’s what we’ve pretty much done all season.

but now that teams are starting to intentionally lose, we can’t keep trotting out the same lineup that we’ve been using to try to win games. We’re at the last 7 games and it truly is time to see what we have at the end of the bench, lest we hurt our draft position and hurt our goal of rebuilding. This is what other teams are doing. You simply cannot trot out your best lineup against literally Portland’s worst players and have that game mean anything.

The league needs to find ways to set standards regarding tanking that all teams follow. But until that happens the Rockets would be wise to remember that with 7 games left our goal is to continue developing and assessing players so we can improve and rebuild, not winning meaningless games and hurting our draft position.

Rockets should be "tanking" right now by getting a good look at other players on the roster like Nix, Garuba, and Fernando. No point in winning games now when we are eliminated from playoff contention. The draft is not a deep one and it would be devastating if we don't at least have a top 3 pick.

I think the coach and the players should play/coach to win. It is up to the front office to place limitations on the coach that make winning difficult during a tank.

That said, playing Nix and Garuba may help a tank in the short term, but the greatest strengths are the Rockets tank is their playmaking and defense.

I think it's good. The kids wanting to win. But the reality they're not winning more than 2 games out of these 7 left.
Gordon and Dennis should be sat out for the rest of these games.

I feel great. It will be very exciting to watch Johnny Davis in Houston next season instead of Chet, Jabari, or Paolo.

I understand players and coaches playing to win the games. But it's on the front office to sit the vets and let the young guys have these last few games to prove themselves. If the kids win, they win, and worst case scenario, the 4th worst record still gives you a damn good chance at a top 4 pick. But it's inexcusable to have Gordon, Schroder and even Wood out there getting big minutes moving forward.

Thunder tried hard to tank shamelessly last year and look what that got them. The Basketball Gods do not reward blatant tanking.

Why do people take us beating Portland as suddenly trying to win? With all of their injuries, Portland is just that bad right now. Against any team worth their salt, we will still be losing.

The Rockets are playing vets like Christian Wood, Dennis Schroeder instead of giving more minutes to Christopher, or letting their first round pick in Garuba see the floor.

    Just wrong priorities.

Went with play the unknown. Seems like the smart route (Doubt org agrees). Obviously they are meaningless games, but to be able to make somewhat informed decisions on these guys over the summer, to have actually seen what they can do, even on a small scale, a better informed decision could be made. Also, for other teams to see.

I want them to lose out to guarantee our spot in the top 5.

I want the vets who aren’t part of the future like Gordon and Schroder to sit down.

    Play Nix and Garuba.

Why are they even prioritizing wins over player development right now is the real issue I have. It’s just dumb and short sighted.

That said, I don’t understand why so many people keep saying stuff about the top 4 pick being in jeopardy when none of this really has any bearing on the top 4. This isn’t the old draft lottery that we were used to. The worst 4 teams almost have an equal chance of landing 1-4. Bottom 3 the same exact odds so nothing changes much if at all with a another win or two.

The problem is the worst record locks them in at top 5, 2nd worst top 6, 3rd row top 7, and 4th worst top 8.

We have to catch Indiana who has 25 wins to our 20 to significantly change our top 4 odds. That means we need to win 5 or 6 games at the minimum if Indy doesn't win another game.

I'm neutral about it. Of course I would prefer to lose and maximize our lottery odds, but Green and Sengun performing well is going to put a smile on my face despite my preference for losses. They're our future. When we beat the Lakers with a dominant performance from those two plus JC I was ecstatic. Yeah, a meaningless win like that only "hurts" us but I just couldn't help it.

Also, there is no consensus #1 pick in the draft this year. The top four prospects all have a case for top selection. If we end up anywhere in the top 4 I'd be happy.
