Thanks for the reminder (added the clip). I don't know man...is THAT something to hold against Rock for 6 years? This isn't an actor making scripted jokes at another actor. Chris Rock is a comedian that has thrown jabs at everyone in his professional career. If last night was real, I'm sure Chris Rock is thinking "well **** if I was going to get hit on live national TV at least let it be for a better joke"
Since when is hitting someone a "last warning"? lmao. I agree that no doubt many probably thought it was staged/fake. However, that facade clearly dropped when Smith started dropping f-bomb after f-bomb and Rock basically stopped the show wholesale to argue with him. The followup should have been swift. In the real world your ass goes to jail if you did what Smith did. At bare minimum, you get removed from the theater.
Now there will be a ban on telling jokes about the actors and the Oscars will become even lamer going forward.
What would've been funny is if Rock pulled out a piece. I'm 100% convinced Smith only did that because he felt he could get away with it against Rock. If that were Dwayne Johnson he would've kept his silly ass in his chair.
To be fair, he DID win the Oscar for Best Actor last night so it's not a stretch that he has the acting chops to change performances without issue.
The real story we're missing out on here is the absolute mayhem that went on in the production control room that night.
You bascially answered that yourself. By the time the law officer is making that connection and call that it was real, Smith already got his Oscar and on his way home. It is a special setting. Nobody could predict that in time. It isn't okay for sure but it is not like Putin dropped a bomb near the Kodak Arena. It is a beef between former "friends" which unfortunatey took place live on TV. (American TV censored it) Were it in any bar, only TMZ would report it afterwards.
The Oscars is 3 hours long. How long did it take to get from Best Documentary to Best Actor? Seems like those two might be a way apart from each other in the show timeline yes? If nothing else, the private security should have dealt with it, which is entirely up to the Oscars. No excuses, that was really poorly handled on their part. Bad example, bad precedent.
Yeah. It was obviously an inappropriate reaction, but the only thing shocking about it is that it happened on live TV. If we heard that this happened in a private party without cameras, would anyone think twice about it?
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Crazy **** if not scripted. Although the LAPD did say Rock wasn't going to press charges. Makes it seem less scripted to me and just Smith unhinged.
I agree that in the ideal situation, you do not invite him but actors are actors, he seemed jolly fine 90% of the time, nobody could tell of his marital problems. I am sure, he would have attended if they did not invite Jada. Not so sure if he did what he did without her in the attendance.
The Oscar producers are going to have an interesting time writing the script and recruiting the host next year.
