That’s why I talked about winning more (hence the “and win” part). Numbers are good. But they need to mean something. I didn’t bring up Watson because he’s not part of this team anymore
Winning isn’t happening this season. If he puts up good numbers, makes progress and the team makes progress there’s no need to draft a QB. Putting unrealistic expectations on Mills to carry this team to 10 wins when Watson couldn’t, and he’s supposed to be some elite QB isn’t right. Stroud is an Ohio State QB, Young is small and not elite athlete. No point in taking one of them if Mills puts up the numbers and makes progress
this is with bold predictions lol Colts: miss playoffs due to Matt Ryan being placed on IR. I don’t see him lasting all season titans: Henry finally has enough and starts to feel the heavy load he’s been getting this past season and this season. He’s bound to break down with all the rushing attempts and tanehill can’t win without him. jags: there just the jags and won’t be contenders for awhile
I put more stock in wins and losses than I do numbers. I don't want us to be married to yet another mediocre QB. Again, Mills has a lot to prove. If he's as good as some people on the board think he is, he'll be more a truck than a trailer this coming season.
Watson is history as is the team Texans were at that time. Watson has zippo to with Mills (& the Texans) development at this point. This year is his shot. If he doesn’t produce and you have a guy in the draft you believe in, Caserio has to take as many bites at it as possible. He should be loyal to nothing but the process of finding a QB.
wins and losses, its not only in QB shoulders, there have to be a good or great defense, a good OL, and a good RB, look at all great QBs, Rdogers, Russell Wilson, they have won when they had a great supporting team, even Mahomes, didnt have a great OL, and couldnt even score a TD, in the superbowl. Or look at Stafford, he was consider mediocre, because he kept losing despite having great numbers in Detroit, but one season, and he becomes a super bowl, just because he had a better defense and a better OL. even Watson, in 2020, he had great numbers but still only won 4 games, is he a mediocre QB, just because he won 4 games? Yes Mills still has a lot to prove, but if he gets the numbers, even if he doesnt get 9-10 wins, doesnt mean he is a bad QB.
If you took Mills last 5 games and extrapolate it to a 17 game season - you get 4284 yards, 31 TDs to 10 INT - a super red zone efficiency among the tops in the league ,….this is way way above NFL QB average with a garbage supporting cast and honestly I’m expecting that to happen or even much better …the trend is in the right direction- I was not excited the least bit when he first started but he’s doing it
I’m not saying hitch your wagon to Mills no matter what, but if shows progress and puts up good numbers, wins/losses shouldn’t go against him. Just keep the same energy that Watson had his last year played
If Mills is close to 4k passing yards (hopefully with 8-9 air yards per pass attempt) and a 3:1 TD/INT ratio then I would say he sticks. Not sure he will hit those markers, but at least It would be nice to see some 4th quarter comebacks and game winning drives mixed in.
If he put up those numbers he’s among the best in the league 8 QBs had more yards last year 9 had more TDs 16 had more INT That would put him in the top 10 statistically. That’s solid, and about where Watson had us.
I also would like to see him play better/ more consistent against good defenses. He did play better in the first half against the niners and the second half against the Titans…but I want to see some games where they can move the ball for 60 min against a team like the Colts.
I'll save you the trouble, he won't win you over then. This team is worse than the last Watson led team and that team won 4 games so to put 10 wins on a kid is just not going to happen.
Exactly. Putting unfair and unrealistic expectations on Mills isn’t right. I get some people don’t like him but expecting him to do something no one can do isn’t right.
Never say never. I am rooting for Mills to take it to the next level with better play calling, some added stars on that offensive line, a much better running back, and some wide receivers who can do some magic. Can Lovey and our execs make that happen? Time will tell.
