Yeah I am in the Chet or Jabari camp because if Sengun is going to be at the 5 I want an elite athlete that can protect the rim next to him
Chet had a bad game and he never play well against tough competition. When he played physical teams like Texas Tech, Texas, Saint Mary and Arkansas this year he does not play well. He does not give you much on the offense side and defense he is only a shot blocker….but everybody knows you dribble toward a shot blocker to get him in foul trouble. I would draft Jabari or Pablo and our 2nd pick I would take Williams from Duke. While I watch the game tonight I was hoping Chet would show more but if Arkansas have their way with him what do you think will happen in the NBA…guys we would hurt our rebuilding process
Rockets were really good when he was on the team. The man can coach. Should have made him the head coach over Mchale
With Houston and Arkansas advancing tonight over blue chip prospect teams we saw the oft neglected power of a Winning Culture at work. Let’s get a few more top picks but paramount is the expectation of winning no matter what through tenacity and team ball. Let’s reclaim that in H town.
I still believe Chet should be the #1 pick. Kid is unbelievable on both sides of the ball from his elite defense, handling the rock, shooting the 3 ball, can guard 1-5 positions. He’s the ONE you don’t want to pass up on! That Elite rim protection is what the Rockets sorely need!
He had a bad game it doesn’t make him a bad player. He was top 10 in the nation in assists, you gotta look at his body of work is all I’m saying.
Banchero has more in the bag but Blake has the more critical ones like athleticism, dunking and 3 pt shooting. Blake's only issues were health and he lacked the drive to improve his game, his knees gave out early enough and since he lacked the drive to improve he was still the same player as when he started out as a rookie. As it was thiugh if his knees didnt become shot too soon he would still be a 20 ppg and all star today imo. Banchero's mid range game and limited 3 pt shooting can make him the new Rudy Gay if it all goes wrong. Jayson Tatum is a freak athlete and has deadly 3 pt shooting so he was a much better prospect than Banchero.
As far as I'm concerned, the Rox priority should be in this order: 1. Jabari - perfect player if you are serious about winning games. Every championship team needs a guy who can defend opponent stars and shoot 3s. Jabari can do that as a 19 yr old, meaning he can stop improving right now and he has a 15 yr career in the NBA. But being only 19 nd 6'10 he can do a lot of things normal 3nDs cant like go hard at the rim for dunks or step back 3s. 2. Jaden Ivey - if you want a star player who can lead this team it has to be Ivey aka Ja Morant 2.0. People like Banchero for the mid range scoring and w/e but Ivey does what he does but better. Athletic AF, can guard 3 positions and also shoots high volume 3s at 37%. Him and Jabari are the sure fire no chance of failure picks imo. 3. Chet Holmgren - unique frame might lead to injury issues down the road esp some of those nasty falls he has every other game. He is tough but so was Bill Walton and Yao Ming. Extremely good player on both sides of the ball but I'd rather not have a Zion situation here if there are better alternatives. 4. Paolo Banchero - middle man's Ivey imo, you get him if Ivey is already taken. Very limited 3 pt shooting and has dealt with motor and defensive intensity accusations. 5. Duren/Murray/Mathurin - this draft is a 4 man draft imo the 5th spot gonna be a tier lower than the rest. Im not sure who to pick at 5 that makes sense for the Rox at that point.
if you look at their heat maps (page 39 of this thread) you'll see Banchero is actually a great three point shooter from the corners, even more so than Jabari, who struggles from the right corner. Imagining an offense where Green is getting a head of steam off the high P'n'R, having Banchero in the corner as both a shooting threat and a secondary creator could work extremely well.
yanis anteblahblah pick no 15 nikola jokic pick no 40 something steph curry pick no 7 devin booker pick no 13 draymond green pick no 35 something hmmmm there s a lesson somewhere in there for people who think
Banchero’s handle and playmaking is underrated. He was dribble driving and dishing with ease starting from beyond the arc. I saw several euro steps and spin moves illustrating his footwork. And what is this he’s a tweener nonsense? Dude is a solid 6’10’’ 250 which is exactly the same as Anthony Davis right now. He’s larger than Randle or Blake Griffin at a younger age. What he might be lacking is wingspan of guys like AD and Giannis that makes him see smaller.
Banchero at #4? ya'll buggin. This dude just had 3 great games in a row hitting clutch buckets/plays in all of them. He's Detroit Blake Griffin which is a great floor to build from and he has a better shooting touch than Blake ever had. I've been a Banchero Buddy since D-Rock was talking about Jaden Hardy being the best guard prospect last year. If you have Green and Banchero on your roster all you need to do is get some 3D guys around them and you got a nice little playoff team in two years. Sengun fit is questionable but he could be our 6th man playing starting minutes which might work out perfectly considering his conditioning and Paolo's are both suspect. We also wouldn't need to deal Wood because he actually fits nicely next to Paolo in the Frontcourt. KPJ Green KJM Banchero Wood is not a bad lineup to go into the season next year. Obviously I'm trying to get rid of KPJ for a defensive minded guard and it's an even nicer starting 5. KJM at the 3 compliments Paolo really well with his weak-side defensive help.
