Yeah, it made no sense to trade either of those guys for another first round pick in this draft when they can trade them now to either move up in this draft or to acquire picks next year or beyond - especially since they had picked 4 players in last years draft and will likely pick two players in the coming draft. They have more than enough youth to figure out for the moment. I wonder what Wood and the Brooklyn pick might bring in return? Wood is probably a better player right now than anything outside the top 3.Would OKC, Orlando, Sacramento, Indiana or Portland give you their pick 5 or later for Wood & that Brooklyn pick? None of those teams are really FA destinations .... They might pay a premium for a player who they would otherwise have no chance to sign and puts up "unicorn numbers." It made sense to me that they didn't trade either of them at the deadline if the only thing they could get in return was a late 1st round pick in the coming draft. The roster is already so cluttered with young players that you'd end up not giving them enough minutes to evaluate them effectively. Adding two draft picks to the 13 guaranteed contracts puts them at the regular season roster limit. That's the current roster minus Schroder & Fernando. If they wanted to keep Schroder around or use their MLE on a player, they'd have to clear a roster spot to do it. Tilman came in wrecking **** thinking he knew better how to run a successful NBA team better than a guy who had done it for a decade .... and destroyed a contender in a single offseason, then further broke it the next year. That had to be a harsh lesson for him to learn .... I'm not worried about Tilman forcing bad roster decisions or unfavorable trades anymore. I think, judging by his recent comments and actions that he's learned his lesson and is letting basketball people make basketball decisions. I do wonder if he's willing to pony up beyond the luxury tax if it means contending. He won't have "the repeater tax" as an excuse.
I don't think Stone is the worst. Yea he didn't get rid of Wood, and eric Gordon, but is he really that bad? LeGM and the proxy gm should get that title for trading for WB. R u grading him more harshly cause of him choosing green over mobley?
Agree jury still out on stone. Not super impressed so far though. Agree on Silas though. He’s terrible.
From the little I’ve seen, Chet has better instincts and is more physical. But physically, Wembanyama is on a tier by himself; hopefully he can stay healthy.
It's pretty obvious - combine the lack of rim protection with a team not motivated to play defense and this is the product. My sense is that the team wanted to tank this year, of course, we're going to find out the truth to that the next few weeks.
