I can’t even imagine being born one gender and believing your true self to be another. The internal strife is unimaginable to me, and that’s BEFORE a large swath of society would be treating such a person like ****. The last thing I’d want to do is make life harder for these people. But a biological male competing against females in organized gender separated sports isn’t controversial……it’s flat out wrong. No amount of pretty writing can change that for most of society. I know I’m not offering a solution (because I don’t have one), but the trans community is setting themselves back by not policing this problem themselves.

Yeah this is how I feel about it.

I spoke to my wife and a friend that is non-binary about this.... as I am over 40, well off financially, white and societally ideal.... the level of privilege that I have is incredible..... so my perspective and even knowledge is limited.

Basically the non-binary friend attempted to argue that Lia is a woman for all purposes and that the advantage she has is very small if it exists at all. When discussion of muscle strength and body shape were brought to the discussion the argument turned into one of the harm to actual women competitors is small and for the greater good.

My radical wife said that it is bullshit, that there is clearly a massive advantage for someone transitioning and that the fact that the results are what they are speak for themselves. She said that she supported transgender rights and if a male wants to transition into a woman that is fine, but do not expect any special treatment..... as women already have enough to deal with, and having white men transition into women and expecting exceptions to be made for them is par for the course.

I kept my mouth shut and listened and asked if I really should have an opinion and was told no....... so IDK.

 

I side with your wife. Sounds like you can join my "my wife is smarter than me" club (my wife is a Cambridge-trained Ph.D. geneticist and neuroscientist and just generally a much better person than I am lol).

 

It's not about caring about women's swimming, its caring about anybody that has trained most of there lives to be a champion at something and then all of a sudden the rule changes through no fault of there own
