True, he has the potential to be better than others on that list, but we're not a good team now and it takes a team to help develop a young QB. Excited to see what Nick can do now with the draft and rest of Free Agency.

All I know is that Mills better tear it up this year. Like leave no doubt whatsoever that he can be a franchise type guy and play like one. Next year some early mocks already have Houston picking CJ Stroud at 1 overall.

If Mills stays healthy and they hit on 2 or 3 of their draft picks I could see the Texans going 6 -11 or 7-10 next season.

Maybe. He looked "ok" last year with nothing around him and the team won 4 games so its not a stretch to give them a little bump with another offseason. Im just saying if Mills flounders a little or is mediocre or even regresses I would hope that Texan fans would be able to be honest with the player in respect to being able to upgrade the most vital position on the team in a great draft year for QBs. Even if the team wins 7 games and Mills is "meh" there would be middle round QBs available that would be intriguing like Anthony Richardson. Spencer Rattler, DJ, Jake Haener, Jurkovec, Will Levis etc.. etc..

It will be up to Davis Mills to silence the chatter. Dont blame the coach, dont blame the defense, dont blame the OL .. be honest about who the player is at the end of next year, not what he can be in another 2-3 years.

Best case for me Mills shows he belongs and the Texans can focus on Will Anderson Jr.

I honestly believe in every fiber of my intuition that Mills is going to positively surprise a lot of people in a BIG way based primarily on his last 6 games and improvement shown last year overall …
His comfort in the pocket became a shining example that I saw comments by non fans state as most impressive to them plus his movement became a lot less stiff. He looked actually mobile and fluid especially in the latter part of the season
…now having said that ; The only thing he has earned is an opportunity for 2022. He has to know it and I would think he will shine but if he doesn’t I’m out on him absolutely

That’s a more than fair take. Pretty much sums up my thoughts.

Yup. I've been in on Stroud pretty much from day 1 - even when there were some advocating for Quinn Ewers before he transferred out. I like Bryce Young alot too, but I like Strouds physical measurables more than Young.

Stroud has some amazing film (so does Young) but that Rose Bowl game for Stroud was as good as it gets. Davis Mills would have to show me alot next season to not take Stroud if this team indeed does end up with the #1 pick.

Strout is an Ohio state QB. You never take an Ohio state QB

This really is the perfect situation for the Texans. There were many people who said that if Mills had stayed another year, he would have been a first rounder in this draft. Granted, it's a poor QB class, but had the Texans not drafted Mills last year, they almost certainly would have been forced to take a QB early this draft, and possibly even Mills, at a higher spot than they got him at last year. Now they don't have to burn an early pick on a subpar QB. They can focus on the many other holes on the team.

Unless the team has double-digit wins (which I am not predicting, or even suggesting is possible), they should focus their first pick on the best QB in next year's draft. If they don't have the top pick, they should trade up to get it. Then, no matter who they draft, you can have a real QB competition. If Mills in his third year can beat out the rookie, then you can allow your new pick (and likely future QB) to sit on the bench and learn. If the rookie looks to be better, you have a seasoned backup in Mills.

This is the type of scenario where you could find an extremely competent backup who helps you win games over the years when your starter is out. Or, it could be a situation where your backup provides additional draft options in the future (à la Matt Schaub from Atlanta). I really like the position we are in from a QB perspective as this rebuild starts, especially seeing what teams are willing to give up to get that guy. The Texans are in a good position to get that QB without sacrificing in other areas.

It’s more complicated than win 10+ games or else go all-in on a rookie QB. If they go 7-10 and If Mills puts up a stat line of 4100 yards/ 28 TD/ 9 INT you don’t draft a QB you build around Mills.

Also it appears we have entered an era where QB’s are no longer married to their current teams. If every year a guy like Stafford, Brady, Watson, Wilson, Ryan, etc is available you can really build up the other 21 positions and then make your all-in move at QB.

If he puts up those numbers, it would be dumb to not build around him. That’s better than all but one of Watsons seasons

Set expectations low so u wouldn't b too disappointed. Simple lesson in life that can b applied to everything.

Mills gonna need to shine brightly cause we really need to be decisive on getting a franchise qb.

Spent a aht ton of years until we finally found Watson. Do not waste another 20 years dcking around.

Nah, set high expectations for a super talented young QB. It would be best if his talents translate and he’s the best QB the Texans have had.

I have a feeling the afc south is going to take a step back this year. I can see the Texans winning the south and have a fluke overachieving year lol. Which keeps lovies job and McNair will run hard trying to sell to the fans we’re a contender again.

Again its all up to Mills. Team can be garbage around him (again) and he can still show he belongs. You have to assume the team will be 'better' than they were last year and have a HC that actually knows what he's doing. Im judging Mills in a vacuum relative to his peers next year. Timing was good sure for the team to take a "project" in Mills and its worked in their favor. Tyrod broke down as many expected, and it gives Mills the extra time to prove his mettle. It is a win/win for everyone - only hope that people are able to let go if the position can be upgraded.
