this sounds Ahmaud Arbery-ish pursue someone when u should’ve been minding your damn business, get into an altercation, and then try to claim self-defense… Where’s the video?
It's really what happened afterwards that seals the murder: According to prosecutors, Larrama then entered Sons of Boston, where he could be seen “washing his hands, discarding his sweatshirt, and turning his shirt inside out.” “He then left through a back exit,” officials said. Witnesses, several of whom were Larrama’s co-workers, identified him, prosecutors said. Police issued a warrant for Larrama’s arrest and began searching for him on Saturday night before Larrama turned himself in on Monday morning. Medical examiners identified Martinez’s stab wound [what? where weapon?] as the cause of his death. If he was "law abiding", he would've called 911 right afterwards, put on some wetworks and hire a pricey lawyer to invalidate the video as evidence.
Does the precedent of Travon Martin and Kyle Rittenhouse entitle him to a self-defense claim? If he feared for his life once he hit him in the head, would that justify responding with deadly force?
I'm pretty sure that will be Larrama's defense. Would have to know much more to say definitively but that Larrama both chased Martinez after he had left the bar and then proceeded to leave the scene of the crime and cover up traces of the crime would appear to be that it was a crime and he knew it. If he's a bouncer and he had to subdue an unruly patron that escalated to a life and death struggle it would've happened at the bar and he or other bar staff would've called LE.
It's hard to know the specifics, but if Martinez hit him in the head and that imitated the attack, than I would think he could make the same claims Rittenhouse did. Of course we're missing a ton of info here (but it's the D&D so that's part of the fun, right?). Having worked the door at a few music venues a lifetime ago, I will say this - bouncers are nasty people. I have seen them f people up in all sorts of ways (especially if you are inside). I've seen the bouncers go after people in the street. They definitely cross lines. Fortunately my job wasn't security but I am so glad I never got pulled into a fight.
