Difference is JV's opt out is pretty standard in a pillow contract for a recovering player. They leave a very bad taste in your mouth on any other type of contract.

So? The injury risk is still there. This is basic math. If it goes absolutely wrong, you'd prefer to be on the hook for 5 years as opposed to 3?

Yeah the rationalization of a 5 or 6 yr deal as the only acceptable option while being absolutely opposed to both longer and shorter deals is pretty funny.

I wonder if there is a rule against a right of first refusal (right to match) in a player contract. That way you have the contract information you are competing against in front of you instead of an Agent's or agent's proxy in the press? It would be better than an opt out.,

That's not the new contract. One Year $25M with a player option IF he reaches 130 IP. It is a far different calculus than a two year contract with an opt out. The first contract was for two years with all the associated risks and potential benefits of having the player for two seasons.

Treating these as the same is apples and oranges.

Lack of loyalty Carlos. It’s a bad look.

His contract includes a limited no-trade clause. I wonder if Houston is on the list. It would be hilarious if Correa has a monster season (making it obvious he will opt out) but the Twins are out of contention, so the Astros trade for him at the deadline (meaning Houston gets him for the playoffs for $17M/1yr and all they had to give up were prospects, which would be offset by the draft pick they got for losing him lol).

Astros can win without him. Carlos showing his true colors. Good riddance.

Please make that happen. Correa and Altuve should be Astros for Life.

He’s literally questioning his decision as he signs. Wish him nothing but the best.

I've NEVER understood the "lack of loyalty" diatribe by fans towards players. Since when has any of us been so loyal to the company we work for that we would turn down significant financial security/flexibility because we wanted to stay "loyal"?

Let me answer that rhetorical question - NEVER. Now we're finding out that Correa made it known he would've taken less money AAV to stay in Houston and management still refused to even offer a counter . To see regular schlubs on message boards and twitter so willingly side w ownership is wild.

And don't confuse ownership w the franchise itself. I'm not rooting for Jim Crane or James Click. I'm rooting for the Astros and the players that have given me the actual memories and emotions that come w being a fan.

Correa will miss a significant amount of time this season. Book it.
