Sure, the Rockets likely would take Holmgren and Smith over Ivey..... but IMO Ivey is clearly the third best prospect in this draft. So if the Rockets are sitting at #3 or #4 and Ivey is there, then that is who you take...... he also helps cover some of the defensive issues that Green has. Not all of the Rockets issues are going to be solved with their 2022 #1 pick...... you take the best overall player available. If Holmgren, Smith and Ivey are off the board, then the Rockets take Banchero to play the 4 and the Rockets then target a 5 that can block shots and keep the middle clear, because that isn't something that Banchero is good at.... with Banchero the Rockets get a scorer, a good rebounder and someone with some upside as a creator at the 4.... and you hope he becomes a good outside shooter. He helps you offensively, but he doesn't move the needle defensively and locks Sengun into a bench player and the need for a 5.... luckily there are a lot of centers in this draft that can defend the lane.
huh. he was never regarded as that close to being a superstar. he made the all star team a whopping 4 times in his career and never even made any of the all nba teams. Good player, yeah. border line superstar? Not even close
Rasheed Wallace is an odd comparison. Rasheed is better threat from 3 and better defender. Rasheed would be a stretch 5 in today's game, but still 25 lbs lighter than Banchero. Banchero is better ball handler, passer and scorer.
True, but I was comparing their shooting forms. And Klay was as good a dribbler when he first came out. And Jabari is so long all he needs is a crease and 2 steps, he should feast on the more wide open NBA spacing.
What I said was mostly tongue in cheek, I'm not going to get invested in the draft till I find out where the team is actually picking. I'd prefer a pf or c rather than a 7th guard, but I wouldn't completely dismiss the idea of any player this early.
it’s a testament to the greatness of Kelvin Sampson that he’s been to 3 consecutive Sweet 16’s with G league talent. How the Rockets didn’t convince him to be HC is a huge miss.
It’s fun to debate but any top 5 pick will be a crucial building block next to Green. We just need talent, because this team is embarrassing. I’ll be happy whomever we draft.
I think many of us are sleeping on Christopher, especially given he struggled on offense recently. However, I think he has the size, skillset and work ethic to develop into a very good combo guard. I had hoped KPJ would harness his tremendous athletic skills, but I'm realizing the cautions you have consistently levied are valid and he'll likely will not me part of the rebuild long-term. It's unfortunate, I've been rooting for the young man (despite not being a natural PG) he's flashed some interesting potential. However, he seems to be fighting more demons than on-court opponents. I like Ivey a lot and would consider him at #2 if we don't get Chet. Chet is the clear #1 for me.
To be quit honest, I'm not a Jabari fan ..... Its Chet or Ivey for me. Yes. Jabari has a lot of flaws .... and much like Green his draft position is a projection of what he might eventually become, not what he is today. That's been the standard operating procedure with one and done's since the beginning. As for Banchero, he's got big man size but what does he translate to on the next level, he's not an NBA 4 and he's not an NBA 3. What is his role ?? I do think he will have a long career in the league but as more of a supersub than a superstar ....
So you would be happy to be drafting Rasheed Wallace at the top of this draft? And Wallace had a way better handle and diverse offensive game. Wallace was a very valuable guy, but he was more a role player than anything else.
His character was the problem. If you gave me Rasheed’s skillset with a better mental makeup I’ll take it at 3. He was a defensive anchor and stretched the floor. Was arguably the best player on a championship team flaws and all. it was his mental makeup that was his undoing. Think he continually lead the league in techs.
I think most people would be OK if you got a Rasheed Wallace out of that top pick. What you don't want is Hasheem Thabeet. You hope for an MVP-caliber player, but you need to be OK with a solid producer for many years in the league. And that's not even what Wallace was. He was arguably the second best player in that draft behind Garnett.
Nobody ever thought that, and I watched since he was at UNC. He was never thought of as being the best player in Portland or Detroit. With what I know draft bust I would probably take it as well if you could guarantee it, but he was more Horry than a true franchise guy.
I actually agree with this, but then you got a ton of people ******** on Banchero because he was once compared to Melo. So no most people would not be happy if you got a Wallace out of the top pick because most people think Wallace was a disappointment because of where he was drafted and the unfulfilled upside, remember Wallace was considered a bit of a bust before Detroit.
