Happy St. Patrick's Day 2022 Clutchfans! On St. Patrick's Day 2020 I had two shows. One was cancelled three days before St. Patrick's Day and after much debate internally in my band we canceled our other other show the day before. The governor of MN took it out of our hands though when he announced a shutdown of all bars and restaurants at 5PM the day before St. Patrick's day. This afternoon at 4 will be back on stage at one of the venues that our 2020 show was canceled! All isn't good though as we were supposed to play another show tonight but the bar we were playing at got hit by a bus on Tuesday. Hoping nothing else happens and we have a great St. Patricks!
Just remember, it's an "Irish Slammer" not an "Irish Car Bomb", the latter being highly offensive. In fact, the only thing people in Ireland hate more than when Americans call that drink an "Irish Car Bomb" is protestants....... and we know what they do to them.
I played rugby with an Irish guy, nicknamed Irish, from Ireland, who got us Irish Car Bombs at our Irish bar hangout in Galveston, all the time.
Played a show last night at one of the venues we had cancelled at on March 17, 2020. Had some technical problems but after we got over those it went great. It felt so good to feel the energy of a St. Patrick's day crowd. I also got pretty emotional too thinking of all of those we've lost since the last time we played on St. Patrick's day. It was particularly tough for me as I lost one of my best friends in February 2021. She was a huge fan of Irish music and I got to know her through Irish music. St Patrick's day was one of her favorite days and it was sad she wasn't there to see us back on stage.
You don't want any of that ish...you want to spend St. Paddy's day on River St. in Savannah, GA. It's a MASSIVE party and it's utterly devoid of garbage Bostonians, Chicagoans, New Yorkers and Philadelphians.
Played our last show for the weekend last night and it was very fun. Had a great crowd with a lot of energy including a Bachelorette Party twerking to our brand of Celtic Punk. Such a great change from the last two St. Patrick's Days where we were playing on Facebook Live. No matter what Facebook claims Facebook Live isn't Living.. A lot of the last few days though has been about who wasn't there. For most Americans St. Patrick's day is about fun and excess but Irish culture is lot about loss and grief. Many of even our most uptempo Irish songs are about people who have died and that Irish sense of joy with grief was very poignant St. Patrick's day 2022.
As a late nod to SPD, I made Irish Soda Bread yesterday...super easy and turned out amazing. Good with butter, better with a little cream cheese and lox.
Speaking of a late nod to SPD… Anyone know if the fish n chips at the Mucky Duck are as good as the picture on their website. I couldn’t go Thursday, but this picture has me craving it.
Not sure I ever ate there in all my visits for music. Red Lion, maybe? I remember those being good but it's been a while. Thanks for reminding me to pour one out for the Black Lab.
