Following in the controversy with Lia Thomas winning the NCAA championship. I agree that there transitioning isn’t perfect and make that transitioned after puberty would still have skeletal muscular advantages that a non trans woman wouldn’t. I think the fear though that women’s sports will now be destroyed though is overblown as trans people are a very small part of the population.

Since this is a sports board though and many here have played competitive sports at multiple levels then if this just about athletes winning championships would you change genders if they meant you could win a championship?

To answer my own question even though I’ve been very dedicated to Judo and would love to be able to go and compete at the Olympics and win a gold medal I wouldn’t change genders.

I don’t identify as female and evening I was guaranteed I could win a gold medal as a female judoka I wouldn’t do it.

This is a troll thread, right? Why did I even ask, lol.

I think even all but the the craziest of social conservatives can agree that Lia did the transition because she truly identifies as a woman and didn't do it just to win in sports. But that doesn't change anything regarding the arguments about whether it's fair or not for her to compete with cisgendered women and what governing body (NCAA, state, Congress, courts) should be making or interpreting the rules about this issue.

Lia Thomas isn't Johnny Knoxville pretending to be mentally disabled to compete in some special olympics (a fictional movie, I know).

    Would not.

I don't think Trans females should be able to compete with cis females, it sucks for them, but life is no fair.

I would be pissed if I was a female swimmer who lost a championship because of this.

I don't think he's saying she changed genders in order to win a championship. I think he is just asking a question as to whether or not you would change genders in order to win a championship.

Many are categorizing this as the end of womens sports. I think Lia Thomas is likely much more of a outlier. If she isn’t then I think we would be seeing more of an interest in people willing to transition if they though that they could win.

I don’t know Lia Thomas but I highly doubt her decision to transition was just to get a competitive edge. Yet many are accusing her of doing so.

If that really is the case and womens sports are truly endangered from trans athletes we should be seeing much more trans athletes. I don’t think we will and while yes there will be problematic cases I think there will likely be very few trans athletes.

So yes, this was a troll thread. Only the nut jobs think people who transition are only doing it to win at sports. Nobody (I guess almost nobody) who is a cisgendered male wants to live as woman just to win a womens' sports, which nobody watches anyways unless there's controversy, lol. That's not the point that even matters.

I don't care about the person's motivation, but this individual must not be allowed in women's sports competitions. What the person's motivation was is entirely irrelevant.

Only if this is some cheesy Wayans brothers movie to win a bet only to fall in love with the womens team captain.

Isn't this because SCOTUS recognized LGBTQ and everything in beteeen to be eligible for title 9?

So barring civil litigation as a result of that ruling, IMO biological gender should fit admissions criteria, but even that is not cut and dried. Some might be born with instructions to pump extra testosterone, carry an extra sex chromosome, have an extra tendon, or take in oxygen differently.

We live in a wide world. Pretending everything is binary or neatly categorized is a delusion reserved for simple people.
