Oh I think he opts out unless he ends up with a massive injury. Boras will want to secure another massive contract so he can get paid and Correa isn't going to want to waste the rest of his career on a non-contender.

Injury and bad play have the same effect.

Depends on how bad he plays. Just a down season would be dismissed since he has those all the time. A major injury would prevent him from getting another big deal.

He won't get the BIG BUCKS if he once again is unable to have back to back seasons of 500 PA. The INJURY PRONE TAG comes back like a sledge hammer. But a WAR of 2 will have the same effect.

He's probably more likely to have a WAR of about 3 than 7.

The Astros shouldn't have had to match Minnesota's offer - they should have been offering something better than than on their own.

More than likely, 400 PA and a 3 WAR based on his history.

The 5 year 160M offer was better than what he got. He gave up 55M to be a mercenary for Boros.

It'll be a contract year for him, so you never know but he'll have significantly less protection in the lineup, so if his bat really struggles I don't think anyone should be surprised.

The important thing is Correa is beyond happy and going exactly where he wanted to go. The Twins was always the destination on a short term contract.
That’s how Boras helps his clients.

With that said… I’m done with Correa.

Man. Our lineup is looking a lot worse. Correa is such a huge hole to fill. What a bummer.

    1. Altuve 2B
    2. Brantley LF
    3. Alvarez DH
    4. Bregman 3B
    5. Tucker RF
    6. Gurriel 1B
    7. McCormick CF
    8. Pena SS
    9. Maldonado C

    Opening day lineup?

I wouldn't say "a lot worse", also it depends on how Pena does. People said the same when Springer left and the Astros were actually better.

Hopefully Bregman has a good year.

Nah, it's a lot worse. I want Pena to succeed, badly. Everything I hear about him is plus plus. But top end projections for a rookie SS like Pena is, what? 3-4 WAR? That's top, top end. Correa was 7 WAR last year. He was the #1 pick, the #1 prospect, the best player on a team that has been to 5 straight ALCS. You just can't expect a rookie SS to come close to replacing that.

We also know from all these years in the playoffs how incredibly valuable it is to have a lineup go deep, like at least 7 or 8 deep, of battle tested guys. Right now, our 7, 8, 9 is going to be two guys with less than 2.5 years MLB experience and Martin Maldonado.

This tells me the Astros had already moved on to plan B. They made their best offer and Boras convinced Carlos to go for the opt out and the big money deal next year or the year after, to benefit both he and Boras.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some sort of “big move” by the Astros within the next couple days.

I'm not so sure they are going to make any big move.
We already have Pena and fizzy/Myers.
Don't get me wrong I'd love someone to replace the lineup presence of Correa.

Swap Tucker and Brantley to bunch up the speed at the top of the order. Swap Alvarez with Bregman to break up the lefties. Alvarez to 4th.

there’s no way crane and stros would not have agreed to 3/100 with opt outs . He’s doing this because boras (with his track record) is telling him this is the way to more $. With state tax he prolly would have been making more here

If it was security he wanted, 5-$160M would do it. But he wants MAX dollars as if he's always hit 7 WAR without lost time. He's averaged 4.3 due to injury. Rate's still good, but he has trouble staying on the field.

In my dreams we get a Dickie Thon giving us unexpected star numbers without the HBP. 6.1 WAR in first year as full time SS. 7.4 WAR in second year. Carlos was 7.2.
