Why? He wanted a long-term deal and the Astros didn't want that. So then he wants a short-term deal and the Astros don't want that either?
"]Very little interest in Story Rather extend Tucker" I would; however, I don't know what the effect of the new bonus pool arrangement for pre-arb players will have before the first Arbitration year. It's a little different this year. I just checked, and even though he still has less than 1000 PA, the 2020 season was credited as a full service year so he is projected to be arbitration eligible next year. This would be a perfect opportunity for another Bregman style extension. Lower for three years and lock in 2 or 3 years beyond club control.
Let's float some rumors we want to give him 10 year and AAV of 30M. We don't want to actually make that offer, but let's make the Yankees bid against themselves by pretending we're desperate like Boras does.
I give zero cares about correa now and no way I’m giving a player a 10 year contract when his back gives out at age 32-33… and it will. Astros gave a solid 5 year deal to him and I’m sure upped it to 35 per.
That's a similarly dumb reason to walk away, given that the Astros were the ones that didn't want a longer-term commitment anyway.
I like Verlander, but I don't like the deal unless there is an understanding that he will extend a year for every injury free season until he retires. I would do a handshake deal with JV.
There is absolutely no indication the Astros had an opportunity to match the Minnesota offer. So everyone acting like we did needs to hold their horses.
oh I agree with that. I think it’s likely Correa didn’t give the Astros the option to match in the end because the relationship went sideways. I think Correa is also a legacy guy - going to the Twins for a year is just so innocuous. If he did the same deal with say New York or Boston, and then recut a new 10 year deal elsewhere next year, he’d have much more of a “mercenary” tag to him.
He's on a one year deal. What do you think he'll be asking for next year? It was simply time to move on.
Right… he took the deal so he can opt out after one year and test the market again for a 10 year contract. He didn’t want Astros 5 year deal with third year opt out.
I said the only FA bat I didn’t want was Story and I would flip out and break **** if that’s the guy we ended up getting for 80% of what Correa got. Looks like instead we might give him 125% of what Correa got. I’ve been anti Click since day 1. He ****ed around and basically every single signing outside of the hippie Stanek was dumpster diving (and overpriced) at that. He’s pissing away 30 million a year in middle relief and 5th starters (when we have plenty of those guys in the minors) and is 30 million under the tax line. Meanwhile Springer and Correa are going to make 60 million combined- between them, next year. That’s 60 million we should have had to spend on them guys. Also- if you want to b**** and moan about longterm contracts fine, but this teams competitive window is 3 years. We could have gotten out of those contracts or just ****ing eaten them after 2024. Click confuses cheap with value and has a ****ing middle reliever bullpen fetish. disgusting off-season.
You wouldn't be getting him for his bat. He is a plus defender with seasoning. It gives the kids a little more time to make the jump. Pena's only had half a season of PA in the last two years. Story would be a transition guy or a surprise STAR if he brings his bat. It isn't bad, just pedestrian outside if Colorado. By the way, we still have a Correa being groomed at Shortstop in the Minors.
We offered a 5 year 160 contract and rumor was we increased that to 175. He didn’t take it, is what it is. Wanted the one year opt out to go for the mega 10 year deal.
